It wasn't a particularly cold winter by Michigan standards, but we did have our share of cold days. When I uncovered and opened my Escape last weekend there was a fluid that was brown and sticky (tree sappish) that had pushed through the gap between the top of the fridge and the fridge control panel. Since I had left the door propped slightly open through the winter the fluid ran down the control panel and then dripped/ran into the bottom of the fridge. There is no evidence of leak from the outside and no water lines are anywhere near the unit so I am guessing it came from within the refrigerator itself. Does anyone have any ideas what happened here or have you seen anything like it before? I have a couple of pics so you can see the fluid color. Attachments:

Did you pull the cap on the roof and investigate in there? It may be rain water getting in.
Another possibility is frost buildup in the insulation, did you run the fridge quite a bit just before storage? In order to get frost in the insulation, there would need to be an air leak, so check around the cabinet to see if you can find an opening.
If you would have a discharge from the refrigerant, cooling would be reduced or non-existent, so check the performance.

As Lynnmor said, check closely around and the refer vent in the roof, seepage there could dribble down the interior wall of the refrigerator "chimney" & then find its way to where you found it. As it made its way to the top of the refer, it could pick up all sorts of stuff- ooze from various sealants, construction dirt / sawdust- and evolve into the sap you found.
