Has anyone attached a bike rack to the rear bumper on a 261RKS? I have two bikes (32 lbs each) that I would like to carry, but I don't want to cause any undue stress on the bumper, or create any warranty issues. The spare tire has to weigh nearly as much as the bikes...
Thanks in advance,
Ken

I have a Sportsmen 2604RLS I just put a bike rack on - it'll be carrying 3 adult and 1 child's bike this weekend. Hopefully, it'll work OK. My son (the mechanic) said it would be fine and should be no problem.

My son (the mechanic) said it would be fine and should be no problem. They are large diameter bumpers and by looking at them it would appear that it would be no problem. I've been told by numerous dealers as well as the KZ factory that most of their bumpers are only rated for 100lb of total weight (like mine) unless they've been reinforced. So, subtract the weight of the spare wheel (if it's mounted to the bumper) and also consider the weight of the bikes plus the carrier. Keep in mind that bike carriers do not sit the overall weight directly on / over the bumper, they hang outward causing a cantilever force which will torque the bumper as you drive over any road surface. If your son is a mechanic then he will know that a 30lb bike hanging 1 foot away from the bumper will cause the bike to actually "feel" like 50lb of weight to the bumper due to the cantilever effect. It's like holding the 30lb bike in your hands against your chest vs. holding it in your hands with your arms extended. (Then walk around to simulate the bouncing effect that will occur while driving.) Not saying that it can't be done; just check the weight rating and if it's too light then have it reinforced. (Not an expensive upgrade) Just something to consider.

I have a 2013 spree 261 rks. I found that by my experience it does not work. So, what I did is welded a 1/4 L-bracket on the inside frame to bumper on each side. You only need one L-bracket on each side. I moved the spare tire over to the right and modified it so it doesn't block the tail light (cut and re-welded spare tire mount). Then I mounted a receiver in the center of bumper that will accept my bikes and/or my generator. Very stable and had no problems. If you are not a welder spend the extra money and get done that way you will not be sorry and its one less worry. Hope this helps! Good luck!
