What does most of you guys use for lube on the 5th wheel hitch? Lube Plate or Grease. I have a Pull Rite Slider hitch which has a capture plate and the capture plate has a key way on it. So you cannot put a normal round lube plate on the king pin from what I can see. What do you guys think? Thanks

I replaced the pin box on my 333 with a Reese Sidewinder so I have a similar issue with the lube plate because it interferes with the height of the wedge below. As a result, I use a very light film of grease. I also use the spray white lithium grease on the locking mechanism on my hitch because it tends to stay where you put it better than most.

Thanks for the reply, It looks like I will have to use the grease also. Just don't see any other way unless they have something that has that key way in it.

I really prefer the lube plate simply because it's a lot cleaner, but like you I really have no choice. The good news is the grease works well, just messy. I'll be interested to see how well you like the 326. That's a really intriguing floor plan. It's the only plan in the Durango line that I think I would like as well as the 333. Jay

I just read this in the owners manual of the Pull Rite super glide hitch: Frequently asked questions: Page 15 Can I use a Teflon disc or lube plate on the king pin plate? The king pin box and SuperGlide plate or “head” move together and since there is no friction, there is no need for any grease or a lube plate. Use of a Teflon disc or lube plate would cause the king pin to be short and problems hooking up will occur.
So that tells me I do not need grease or the plate since the head moves with the king pin box. Cool, Glad I read the instructions, haha

Cool deal! I guess sometimes it does pay to read the instructions, lol! Just don't tell my wife I said that...

I keep going back to the big guys, ever see a Teflon disk on an 18 wheeler? I'm still old school grease.

Reason why you don't see them on the big rigs is hardly anyone hauls just one trailer. The rental fleet I managed was 750 units. And I was a small office. In short, unless everyone is running a slick disk it just doesn't work. They do make 'em...either trailer or hitch.

Company I drove for had 10,000 trucks, times $20 each, I suspect they could buy a lots of grease for the price.

Exactly & I bet you hardly ever hauled the same trailer twice. But for a small outfit with dedicated trailers, might make sense. Also, how many times have you gotten some of that nasty black evil 5th wheel grease on you? That alone makes it worthwhile to me

OK I see what you mean, I use what's in my shop, grease. I learned with the big truck, stay away from the hitch & pin box.
