My Chevy 3500 will be delivered soon. I ordered it with the 5th wheel preparation package and the OEM accessory 5th wheel which is made by Curt. The dealer thinks the hitch may be on back order. Assuming that it is not available at delivery time I’m looking for recommendations on make/model. The GVWR on my 5th wheel is 16,000 lbs. Any suggestions are most appreciated as I have no experience with this type of tow hitch configuration.

I use a B&W Companion made for the Ford puck system. Not that familiar with the Curt units. Mine is 2 pieces, so it is pretty easy to remove and replace as needed. Each pieces way in the 75 lb range. I have had 0 issues with mine, and I bought used off of Facebook marketplace. Mine is 18k lb model. If I had to buy a new one today, I would probably go right back to the B&W Enjoy the new truck and the trailering it will provide! Kirt

I run a Husky with also with the Ford puck system. Curt & Husky are in my opinion about the same, good quality, but not top of the line like the B&W. One design seen on lower price hitches is a "locking bar" type of hitch, I prefer the wraparound jaw design. I don't know what GM charges for their hitch, but if the dealer starts tap dancing around about actually delivering the hitch- get your money back and get one yourself.

Another B&W guy. I had a Husky before the B&W great hitch but jammed occasionally and I yanked my shoulder trying to release. The B&W is much easier to open to unhitch, jammed once so far and all you do is pin it in the open position, it can not stay locked due to design. Most times it a one handed job to open, flip lever forward and drive away.

x3 for B&W Companion hitches. Awesome hardware and an awesome company to deal with. Always willing to help a customer out, whether it's parts or tech support.

Being the odd man out, I have an Andersen for my 2017 251...Has worked flawlessly for me, though I am newer at this... but at 37 #, it is easy for a 75 Y/O to IN & OUT with one hand... your mileage may vary....

I like the Reese goosebox & GenY because there's nothing left in the box when the trailer is unhooked & provides an extra level of ride suspension for the trailer.

I agree with luscombet8f, the Anderson Hitch is great! I like that it's easy to use, light weight and no issues.

I came across this yesterday: youtu.be/hA8K35FwTv0. Looks to be a hitch to avoid, as there are reports of a number of failures. Lyle

I like the B&W Companion for a few reasons. First, it's way overbuilt. Second, with the 5th wheel prep, it has the smallest footprint available. It is a little heavy, which I like, and easily comes out in two parts. When I'm feeling lazy, I have a $60 Harbor Freight winch hanging from my rafters. Doesn't get any easier than that. The Anderson hitch has its advantages with being light weight, but for my own personal preferences, I'll never change from the B&W.

I have a plain old Reese 16k hitch and it works fine, but based on everything I've seen, my next one will likely be a B&W Companion. Best hitch on the market IMO, seriously overbuilt.
