Hello All,
This is my first post to the forum as the owner of a new 2012 E19SBT which we love. This is our first camper so there is so much we don't know and have been reading voraciously to catch up. On our last camping trip we had used our Honda EU2000i Companion generator for the first time. Testing out what could be run using the portable generator I somehow blew a 20amp fuse in the RV and without the generator running everything else on board (lights, pumps, radio) stopped working. I learned that the generator could run the refrigerator, microwave, fan, and AC at once without a hiccup, but the fuse panel blew the 20amp. All these devices kept running while the generator was on, as if it was running off 'shore' power. In the future we have no intention of trying to run everything at once, but wanted to test out what the generator would be able to handle. I only knew the fuse blew when I turned off the generator and tried to go back to our battery to use the basic services again (fan, refrigerator running on propane / battery, and the occasional water pump). First I was worried I somehow fried the battery. BTW I have a battery disconnect installed by our dealer. I left it in the 'on' position when I connected the generator. Again, we are learning, no one has told us to leave this on or off when using a generator.
How can the fuse panel blow a 20amp fuse and the generator, which has a fuse did not stop? Can I tell which appliance blew the fuse so I don't do that again?
On the bright side, I ran out of propane for the refrigerator and successfully had the tank refilled and came back to camp to reconnect it and get the refrigerator running again! It's the little things that keep us happy.
Any thoughts are appreciated. I want to learn what I did wrong, and how I can make better use of all the choices.
