We are planning a trip to New England in September/October 2021, hopefully. We’ve never been there and would greatly appreciate recommendations for RV parks in the area. Hopefully everything will have returned to some semblance of normal by then. Thanks in advance.

Jay During that time of year you are going to head into some beautiful colors the further north you go into New England. Depending on where you are coming from I would hit the KOA in North Stonington, CT and check out Eaastern CT and Rhode Island. I would then head up to Normandy Farms Campground outside of Boston. Check out Gillette Stadium (NE Patriots) down the road and short trip from Boston. Head up to Acadia National Park/ Bar Harbor, Maine. Many nice private campgrounds to choose from. After that head across to Conway, New Hampshire and go across the White Mountains on the Kancamangus Highway to Lincoln, New Hampshire. From there head to Northern Vermont to South Hero VT north of Burlington on Lake Champlain. Stay at Apple Island Resort. You can't go wrong with that trip. I did it this past summer during COVID. It was awesome. I live in southern CT and would recommend it to anyone.

Where are you planning on going? We just did one last summer. We are planning to go to Maine, especially the Acadia Nat'l Park area, we would like to spend some time in the Boston area, and we both want to spend time in Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont. Tentatively we plan to spend a total of about 7 weeks, including our travel from Oklahoma and our return home. I also plan to avoid the NE corridor like the plague. Dragging a 40' 5er through NY City traffic is not my idea of a good time! This may be a precursor to a longer trip in the future. I'm retiring next month so we plan to do a lot of this! Thanks and safe travels! Jay

I realize you don't have the long cross-country trip to get there that we do but how long did it take you to make that loop? Thanks! Jay

We live in Connecticut. We used three weeks because of a week at Acadia and a week in Northern Vermont in South Hero. The rest was spent with a few days a piece at each other location in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

I would do the loop I suggested starting in Connecticut. Avoid NYC by getting onto I80 in Pennsylvania and follow it straight into I84 in Connecticut. Take 84 east to Route 9 south to I95 north. If you need any ideas let me know on this forum. Basically, you end up in Vermont on Lake Champlain. At that point you’re on the New York State border on the Canadian line and you can easily head west and check out Niagara Falls in Western New York or head further south to Gettysburg PA.

I'd really like to take a couple of weeks going, about 3 weeks in New England, then a couple more weeks on the way home. I'd love to spend more time but I'm sandwiching it between a couple of events that I really need to be home for. Thanks again! Jay

For Boston we stayed at winter island, which is the closest campground by about 30 min. This is a weird campground cause it's actually a marina and public beach area with lots in the parking lot. If you can get a lot in the grass it's away from all the ppl. Granted in October it might not be too busy, unless it's close to Halloween cause salem is right there. This campground only has water and electric and on off site dump station. We stayed in Camper Haven in Cape Cod which was a big campground and about a 10 min walk to the beach. We really loved Acadia KOA and Camper Haven.

I will have to get back to you after I can get to my travel diary in my RV. I do want to recommend a really nice, quaint, campground in Maine. It is at Pemaquid Point, Me, it's called Pemaquid Point CG. It is just down/up the road from Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. The is a great lighthouse, the grounds are open to the public with beautiful rocky shores to sit on and just relax. There is a small fee, $5 during the day, when were there a couple of years ago, but after about 5:00 it is open with no fee. Dusk and evenings are beautiful there. We often pack a meal or snack and sit at the picnic tables or on the rock. It is south of Acadia and then out on one of the many "fingers"/ points jutting out into the ocean. When at the CG, ask if they still have a lobsterman who can deliver fresh to the CG. If you like lobster and want to cook your own....much cheaper...bring a Large saucepot or a canning pot.
Acadia is beautiful...take time and don't miss it.
We also traveled up to Eastport. ME to see the bore-tide. It is a drive from Acadia but we enjoyed it. It isn't as dramatic as in Nova Scotia but still quite impressive....14 feet or so. We stayed a a nice CG right on the water directly across from Canada. While there we went to Lubec ME where Quoddy Lighthouse is. It is the farthest lighthouse you can drive to in the eastern USA. Honestly, there isn't much to do in the area but we just enjoyed relaxing and watching the tide come and go...our kind of camping.

I will definitely check out those campgrounds as we want to spend a good part of our time in Maine. Also would love to go on up into Nova Scotia if time permits. Thank you! Jay

We are headed to that area this summer. We have a week in Augusta and a week at Belfast Maine. Then a week each in Vermont New Hampshire and New York. Our final stop will be in Shipshewana for the rally, before returning to Texas. In Belfast we are staying at Moorings RV, they have been recommended on this forum numerous times. In Augusta we will be at the KOA. Kirt

Small world, we are in the beginning stages for planning a trip of about 4 to 6 RVs to Maine mid Sept 2022. We will be departing Northern Delaware and heading to Maine. Looking for a coastal campsite that has access to lobster piers / boats, spending a total of probably 4 nights then heading to Turning Stone Resort in Verona NY till Sunday morning then to home,, Suggestions please... we are also mostly big 5th wheels, 40+ ft long and 13-6 high if that makes any difference. By the way we will also be at the KZ Rally in Aug this year, had a great time at the 2019 rally... Mike & Denise

We just hit Maine. In a previous post someone mentioned the KOA at North Stonington CT. We stayed there, was very clean, sites were easy and hwy access was ok. You are close to Mystic and the US Sub at New London. I would not recommend the KOA in Hagerstown/Williamsport MD. If you plan to come up that way. Awful road in, park is tired at best. We are staying at Moorings in Belfast ME, starting Monday, it is on the coast. The next few days we are inland at the KOA in Augusta. Be prepared for tolls, Unless you opt to get an EZpass. Lots of construction from Texas to here. Kirt

We arrived in Belfast Maine today. We our staying at Moorings RV Resort. This park sets on a small rise overlooking Penobscot Bay. The setting is beautiful. The sites are a little small, and parking the truck was tight, but the setting overcomes that. Limited shade, but always a good breeze. We had the spot reserved for 18 months, well worth it. Kirt

We stayed at Shelburne Camping Area in Shelburne Vermont. This park is about 7 miles south of Burlington, and a few miles east of Lake Champlain. Older park, but clean and quiet. We stayed in spot P1, a pull thru by the office. Located on US 7, near Shelburne Farm and the Shelburne Museum, both worthy spots to visit. Kirt
