I have a Sportmen classic 180 QB and it has a GVWR of 3500 pound. I have noticed however that the toy hauler version of the exact trailer has a GVWR of 5000 pounds . Does anyone know what the TH has that allows it to carry so much more than the 180QB and if the 180QB can be upgraded to carry a higher load.

Without looking at the units side by side, it could be due to any or all of the following: The size of the metal used in the frame, the coupler, springs, axles, wheels and tires.

If it is the springs, axel and tires, these can be upgraded, I would think. You would think KZ would offer a heavy duty package as I am sure many buyers would prefer to be able to place more weight in the trailer than say in their pickup. 3500 GVWR is low, giving only 500/600 pounds can be loaded in tbe trailer ... not much room if freash water tanks to be used and possible need to drive to a dump station to empty grey and black water. In the pictures the units look the same.... see the TH specs below, how would you get a high GVWR with the axel rating they show? (Only one axle) UVW (Unloaded Vehicle Weight)* 3,250 Dry Hitch Weight* 420 Dry Axle Weight* 2,830 NCC (Net Carrying Capacity) 1,750 GVWR 5,000m

Kz has no options as stated on Springs, axles, wet bolt kits, shock absorbers or disk brakes at the present time on larger 5th wheels or toy haulers, it sure would be nice if they did We like others have added the above options from a outside vender to upgrade our home on wheels
But again I will say for the price point Kz still makes a great solid trailer, it's just those little tweaks that a few dozen maybe more people would pay for if they were to add options an that the problem, not many new owners (1st time) owners may not think they need such
As well week end warriors may not travel the miles some of use who have done such or do such need such upgrades ... Some owers who may travel say 1500 miles a year at most may not need a heavy spring package unless they are hauling heavy loads an then the salesman should point out they need a heavier trailer to do such but as we all know they will not Ugh !!!!

Thanks Chuck. I found a dealer who can upgrade the axle and tires, more to give a comfort level of the max 3500, than to exceed it. (Provide some breathing room)

rvtravels let me point out that you need to add better spring hangs, wet bolts not just axles an tires, we went with the MorRyde Brand which I highly recommend, LCI also make such but I do not know the price they are asking ... Safe Travels Chuck
