I purchased a new 2020 KZ Durango D315RKD and one of the sky-lights are leaking already. I got on the roof to inspect and it has a small crack in the dome. I could not believe how thin these sky-lights are. for now I am going to seal the crack with silicone. I know I can take it to the dealer to get it replaced under warranty but the dealer I purchased the RV from is a 3 hour drive each way so I am thinking about doing it myself and using a heavier and better quality dome. Has anyone else had this issue with the sky-lights cracking within the first year of owning their Durango or any new RV?

We have a 2016 Durango 315RKD, had a leak in the sky light above the shower. What ours turned out to be was when it was caulked at the factory there was a bunch of pin holes (air bubbles) in the caulking around the sky light on the roof, one or more of those holes must have went all the way through. Was dripping from a screw head on the under side in the shower. I re-caulked all the holes up there and so far so good, a bit different than a cracked cover. If it were me being your dealer is that far away, I'd just order a new cover and fix it. But that's me, our selling dealer was about that far away too. Happy Campin....

Welcome!
You have the right idea, fix it yourself so that it is done right. I would only use the warranty for replacement of major cost items, and even then you have to inspect everything they do.
Be sure that you thoroughly clean and prepare the mounting surface before installation. Check if the new skylight is twisted when placed down on the roof, maybe that is why the original failed.

Our dealer called in April to let us know there are issues with the skylight. Sure enough both skylights were cracked, but fortunately not leaking. Unfortunately we had other warranty issues, so we had the dealer make the repairs.
