We just bought a new 241RLK and wonder about how best to sanitize the fresh water tank before initial fill up.

Bleach and water mixture depending on the size of the tank then drain it. Fill it a few times with water and drain it after every fill.

Drain the water heater and replace the plug. If you have a winterizing system for the water heater, turn the valve(s) to the normal operating position. Add 27 ounces of plain bleach (not the scented kind) to your tank and fill completely. Run the mixture thru each fixture till you smell bleach and air is expelled, use both hot and cold faucets. It will take a minute to refill the water heater. Don't forget the outside shower. Refill the tank completely. Let stand for hours or overnight. Open low point drains, tank drain and drain the water heater. Close the system and flush with good drinking water till bleach smell is gone. You can bypass the the water heater heater draining, but it will take a lot of flushing to remove the bleach.

Ratio is 1/4C bleach per gallon of water for sanitizing.

Ratio is 1/4C bleach per gallon of water for sanitizing. Do you pour in almost a gallon? I use 1/15th that amount.

I put 2 gallons of diluted bleach (1/4C bleach per 1 gallon of water) in via the suction hose inside the unit with sink and bath faucets open, and pour another 2 gallons of the solution into the fresh water tank from the outside and let it sit. Let that sit for about 3 hrs then flush with fresh water.

I was going by by Venture owners manual on sanitizing the system. Page 51: Plumbing lines also have Low-Point drains located in various areas. You may find them (2) for hot and cold coming out of storage areas, outer metal skirt, through under belly covers, control centers, etc. Water should always drain out to the ground, not into underbelly cover. Sanitizing and Filling the Potable Water System For your safety, you should sanitize your potable water system when your recreational vehicle is new or when it has been sitting unused for a period of time and it may have become contaminated. Prepare a chlorine solution using 1/4 cup of bleach (5% sodium hypochlorite solution) to one gallon of water. Prepare one gallon of this solution for each 15 gallon capacity of the tank. As designed and constructed, this method will sanitize the plumbing system.

I did a fair amount of fresh-water flushing (including WH) after it sat and did not notice chlorine smell when showering etc. Thanks for reading more carefully than I obviously did!

The amount of bleach needed to sanitize the RV tank is about one cup of bleach for every 40 gallons. A 43-ounce bottle of bleach can cost $10 or more, depending on the brand, but you can save a lot of money by using it for routine RV water tank cleanup.

I use a cup in my 38 gallon tank. Bypass the water heater first. I do this any time the TT has been sitting for more than a few weeks.

I don't drink the on board water so no need to sanitize. 3 gallon jugs filled at water machines so water is always the same, wife's sensitive to water changes.. On boards for showers, washer, & doing dishes.

I will sanitize once at the beginning of the season. However we still don’t drink the water. We always bring enough water from home for brushing our teeth, for coffee, drinking and for the ice maker. On a recent two week camping trip the campground had a boil water advisory for the good part of the trip.

On boards for showers, washer, & doing dishes. For boondocking, we just get the six one gallon packs at Costco for drinking. Hand washing and dishwashing we use the onboard water. Frankly, I'll still brush my teeth with the sink water and not worry about using bottled water. Since I've never even gotten covid, I figure I'm just too damn ornery to get sick from anything. 😝😝😝 We'll be taking the trailer up to my sister-in-law's house in Chino Valley in the next couple of weeks, and just tie into her household water, bypassing the tank. It's really good water up there and we don't worry about issues. She has her own well and filtration system. Lyle
