2018 sportsmen classic 181BH. Water heater running CO2 alarm goes off periodically. Gas lines test good at shop they cannot find a malfunction to fix but everytime we go out camping and turn on the water heater about 10 minutes later their is an odor and alarm goes off. I have tested the CO2 alarm with a plug in home one and it did go off as well. This only happens when running the hot water heater. Anyone have this issue and what was the fix?

Welcome!
The water heater needs to be installed correctly so that it vents properly and is sealed from the interior. The vent might have insects building a nest inside as well. Download the installation manual for your particular water heater brand and model for more information. Your "shop" might be an RV dealer that had an inexperienced worker look at it.

Check the seals on your slide out. I had the same problem on my spree connect a few times. Turned out to be a gap in the seal at the floor when the slide was extended which was about 18" from the O2 detector and if the wind was right exhaust from the water heater would get in there. Having the exhaust fan on would make it worse which would put the trailer in a negative pressure. My water heater vents out the back so it didn't happen often but drove me crazy for a while. Your heater is on the same side as the slide out. Extend the slide out and look for daylight around the seals, especially at the floor level.

2ndchance. There is a gap weve had to cover with tape becauase of misquitos a couple of times because they were getting in the camper. Then take the tape off before we slide the slide in back in. Maybe taping it everytime will help. Never thought of that. Dont know what a good fix would be for that

I can only assume that the odor you're smelling is "burnt propane exhaust" smell and not straight up propane. CO2 detectors can be so bloody sensitive that running a generator 50' from the open windows of your rig can set it off; BTDT. Do you have any windows open when this is happening? I agree; check the exhaust for critters or other blockage and check seals. Lyle

Also a weak battery or batteries can set off a CO2 detector as well Chuck

My Durango380FLF is up for the winter. I have it plugged into AC to keep the batteries charged. Propane shut off nothing to create CO2 goes off ever 4 days. This is a 2016 unit. Any ideas as to why?

5-7 years is about the useful age of the CO (not CO2) detector. The sensors can get dirty or corroded. Some detectors are cumulative. The sensitivity will change change with age. As far as the water heater, it could be an insect or spider web in the flame tube. That would cause incomplete combustion and more carbon monoxide I had that problem with mine. Blew out the tube and a stink bug popped out.
