Hi All,
New to the forum but not RVing. Made the ultimate bonehead mistake and sold my 2006 DRV Elite Suites and bought a new 2018 KZ Venom 4111TK in Dec 2018. My wife didn't want me to haul the motorcycle in a swivel wheel trailer behind the 5er. Said we would look like the Beverly Hillbillies.
I expected the KZ would not be anywhere near the quality of the 13 yr old DRV but I ended up shocked by the poor manufacturing quality of my Venom. Nothing but issues since day 1 and to top it off the suspension and ride was so poor it damaged the motorcycle. Ending up spending $10K for new MorRyde IS with disk brakes just to be able to keep the bike from being damaged again.
Issues since new:
1. Rear AC didn't work. Fixed by dealer after 4 month war.
2. MyRV unit crapped out after 1st night. Dealer said bring it in. I said "HOW?", I can't bring in the slides!
3. Holding tanks are much smaller than advertised. They add the Gray 1 & 2 together for total volume. And grey 2 has to drain through grey 1. Dumb design. Black tank is sum of rear tank + front tank. Grey 2 fills in 2 days with just wife and I doing submarine showers. Black fills in @ 3 days.
4. Roof leaked around shower skylight. Skylight was improperly installed.
5. Water pump leaked at filter housing because KZ connected rigid PEX to in/out of pump.
6. Rear cargo door would not close tight and leaked because door was improperly aligned.
7. CO2/propane detector did not work. Matter of fact they removed the fuse because it would sound alarm constantly. KZ mailed me a new one after @6mo.
8. Leveling system quit during trip to MorRyde. Called KZ service to see if they could do a quick fix because I would be passing near the factory and it had to work for MorRyde to install the new suspension. Ended up fixing it myself with help from MorRyde techs. MorRyde knows what customer service means!
9. Holding tanks no longer fully drain with exception of grey 2. Sensors are OK, tanks just will not fully drain unless I move rig way off level. Huge sag in underlayment where tanks are installed.
10. Clothes washer in garage was plumbed directly into the drain pipe not the rear holding tank. Cannot use it unless sewer is connected.
11. Frame is flexing in front. Flex is enough that the cap screws on the bottom pulled out. KZ said take it to dealer. Dealer said we cannot fix frames, take it to LCI. LCI said take it to dealer and we will send a tech to inspect in 4-6 weeks.
12. Graphics are bubbling and peeling already.
13. Curb side slide floor is rotting out because the plastic panel over it was not properly installed. KZ said take it to dealer. Dealer said we cannot do slide floor replacements, take it to KZ.
14. Street side slide ceiling is drooping in the center allowing water to pool 2" deep. KZ said take it to dealer. Dealer said we cannot do slide roof repairs, take it to KZ.
15. Wiring to solar controller was miswired. I fixed it.
16. Propane tank feeder lines rotted. I fixed replaced them with quality braided lines.
18. Living room AC failed. Dealer said bring it in and we will get to it in a week or 2. Called Coleman, they sent out a mobile repairman who replaced it at no charge. Another company that knows what customer service is.
19. Trim strips popping off faster than I can reattach them.
The other disappointing thing we found is sharp corners on everything. Cheap cabinet latches that pop open while travelling and can cut hands and arms when trying to reach in, especially with the thin skin of older folks. I replacement them all with strong magnetic catches.
Oh, the "4 season insulation package" means you will not freeze to death in the winter or die from heat stroke in the summer but you will be cold and hot. Only warm place in the RV in winter is the storage bay and bathroom. In the summer heat, the AC's never shutoff when set at 80.
I figure this rig is not likely to last. Poor quality materials, poor quality manufacturing, no or little quality control and poor customer service.
Well, I guess that says my hello.
Buyer beware with KZ.
