We are looking to buy a 5W and have noticed that many 5W come with Residential Refrig. My Question is : how does the Refrig work when you are traveling? If boon docking can solar handle the load or do I need to run the generator all the time?

Either that, or spend a lot of bucks on solar, inverter and batteries. To me, a residential makes sense if you're full time, or nearly so, and never boondock or dry camp. Lyle

Had residential in my last camper it ran off inverter when not plugged into shore power .it would run another 24 hours before running the battery down . I liked it a lot worked great but it wouldn’t be good for boondocking without a generator. My new camper has gas/electric it’s fine too . My opinion is if you are going to boondock gas if not residential. That said I’d rather had residential but didn’t let the gas fridge stop me from buying the new rig I liked everything else about it . They both have good points and bad

I have the gas electric and a couple years ago it quit on electric, I had the option to switch over, not so in a residential. That could have been a major problem with the 18CUFT of refer & freezer full. I have it set on auto so IF I loss electric it automatically switches to the gas side.

We also the gas / electric with such as with others we have the option to switch over, not so in a residential. As stated this could be a major problem with the 18CUFT of refer & freezer full an you run out of power. as with Edd505 we have ours set on auto so IF I loss electric it automatically switches to the gas side an were leave ours on while traveling.
