So last fall, right after we left the KZ rally we had three springs in two of our slow rise blinds break. I contacted KZ when we got home in September. Our dealer is 200 miles away. Contacted Joe at KZ said he said they would get them fixed. After some confusion (didn’t want shades replaced, just new springs) supposedly the parts would be on their way. Well guess what, it’s 6 months later and still no parts. Several emails and phone calls - checking on part number, parts being ordered, etc and still waiting!! What the heck. I was so impressed with service at the rally but I guess if you aren’t at the rally service is nonexistent. Send me the dang springs so I can get my blinds fixed and back up. This is beyond ridiculous!

Are these the roll shades? I have not had to fix my roll shades yet but when I was growing up, my mom would fix our roll window shades at home. She took them down and started to tighten the flat pin on one end, not all the way... just to get it so it would retract (trust me it will spring back if you don't work with it), you might have to try a few times to get the right tightness of the spring. Roll the shade-slack to tighten the shade on to the rod so it is snug, replace into the bracket and it worked every time. I do not know if the ones in our Durango work this way but if mine ever give me a problem I am going to give it a try...hey, they already don't work, what's the worse that could happen. If the spring actually broke, this in not a fix....only if the spring released/sprung. If you give it a try, let us know if it worked. Hopefully, it will be a temporary fix...maybe more. If you ever get the parts you'll have a back-up.

The spring system that holds the shade and then rolls it back up broke. I went on the Irvine site and they show how to replace the parts. Just can’t get KZ to get their ..... together and send me the parts. Yes I could probably order them from Irvine but my unit was still under warranty when this happened. Grrrrrr

KZ did not manufacture the shades so why are you trying to order the parts to repair them through KZ? Second KZ most often will not sell you replacement parts you must order them through a dealer. Why not try ordering the parts you need through Irvine shade the actual.manufacturer. They may warrant them for you.

KZ has a two year warranty. The shades broke prior to the end of the warranty. Dealer wanted me to bring unit to them 200 miles away. I talked with KZ told them dealer was 200 miles away. KZ said they could get this taken care of so didn’t have to go 400 miles round trip. Dealer has been less the cooperative in the past anyway. So with assurance that KZ was going to send parts I’ve been waiting and waiting.....,

I'm with ya, on this! If it's under warranty, KZ should take care of it, no matter who made the product. They advertise a "bumper to bumper" warranty and the shades are in-between, last I looked. What KZ =should= have done, was to recommend a mobile RV repair and send them the parts. Yeah, you end up paying the trip charge, but that's cheaper than 400+ miles back to a dealer that's already given you grief.

We also had one of our slo rise internal spring break on one of our new shades. The dealer contacted KZ and they sent the replacement. (Both day and night shade). It wasn’t hard to remove and replace the shade. I don’t know why you don’t want the entire shade replaced, especially since they are under warranty. I’m sure you have a valid reason. On a slightly different note, I had to readjust the tension on the other shades. Not all of them were slow but quite zippy. Also, I’ve had to reattach the bottoms to the a lot of my shades. Never had this problem with our previous camper and those same type shade.

Blind update. KZ sent the springs to fix our blinds. Thank you to them. Just wish it hadn’t taken almost 6 months to get this resolved!

In answer to why didn’t we just replace blinds- KZ said the same material wasn’t available. These are two of eight blinds all in the same area so was really hoping to keep them all matching!

If your read closely it States Limited "bumper to bumper" warranty
Jetzen was somewhat right, the MFG of the appliance etc are on the hook the 1st year of the warranty, after that Kz is on the hook for such ... As I found out early on dealing with the MFG of the appliance/equipment is sometimes way faster than dealing with your dealer or Kz ...
Example: If you are having something fixed though warranty, your dealer requests the parts thought Kz, in turn Kz if parts are not in stock requests part from MFG who made such .... Thus the MFG of the Parts sends such to Kz which then sends such to the dealer who thus either installs such or sends them onto you ... If the MFG of the part isn't make such or is out of stock then you have to wait till the MFG makes such an then ships such to Kz which again ships to dealer an to you ... It's called supply an demand Ugh !!!
If you are out of warranty or break something (your fault) Kz requires you to buy parts thought your dealer even if your at the factory, you can not buy direct from Kz !! ...
Example: our Great Dane broke our closest mirror, I ask Kz when I was at the Kz rally if they could replace such then an there ... They stated they could install such if it wasn't under warranty an was our fault an we
would have to buy such thought dealer, but they would change us for installation...
Their recommendation was to go directly to the glass shop they would order from or my local glass shop an get it replaced an it would be way, way cheaper... To replace the complete mirror assembly was $500.00
by ordering though my dealer an then Kz charge to replace such ... Thus thought their recommendation I had
the Glass mirror replaced by local glass shop for $240.00 including tax an installed in my driveway in a week ...
Note: the mirrors are not regular old glass mirrors, they a temped glass because they are in a vehicle not a
home, thus if broke they shatter differently ...
Finally here is a prime example of Kz not wanting to make money off the back of an owner but telling them a coast effective way to have a part replace an still supporting an Kz owner ...

Our new Durango had the same issue on the large shade across the rear. That happened May, 2019 .... it is now May 2020 and the repair is still not made. As a matter of fact none of the warranty items have been corrected except for the microwave that shorted out on our first trip last summer. Yawn... still waiting on promises...

Chuck, that's at the rally, where they have to look you in the eye. You think that they'd tell you that if you called them on the phone? Lyle Lyle
I believe they would, when I talked to them about the mirror they said if I wanted them to order such I would have to go thought my dealer, called dealer they stated that I would have to pay shipping back to Washington State ... I told dealer that I was already at the factory an they had someone there to install it if I bought it thought the dealer, I told Kz about this an they said in no way should I have to pay shipping back to the dealer, I told me dealer this an gave them the name of the CS rep, dealer came back an said that Kz was right an they didn't know this, ya right ... Same when I broke the back ladder, I bought ladder thought dealer, dealer again wanted $500 for shipping, I ask if I could pickup ladder at rally, dealer said no it had to be shipped, again Kz stepped up to the plate an said no I could pick it up at the rally but since I broke it I had to get someone other than them to replace it, again the dealer came back an said they didn't know that Ugh !!!
So on two different times, Kz told the dealer they were wrong an even if I bought the parts from the dealer which I had to per KZ I could pick up parts at the factory an save shipping ... In the case of the mirror as I said they told me to buy local an it would even cheaper that getting such in Indiana ...
I also have had no problem talking with Kz CS, they have always either answered the phone when I called or called me back within a day at most two ...
On the case of the OP waiting a year to get something fixed I blame that more on the dealer than on Kz, allot of times dealers will tell you that it's the factory when it's them letting things fall thought the cracks ... I know of one case on this reflector that parts were ordered an the OP kept calling the dealer asking when their parts would be in, dealer kept saying the factory was at fault an had not shipped such... OP found out after a few months the parts had been shipped an the dealer had, had them but had missed placed them in the back of their parts deportment for 2 months ...
So saying something had not been fixed for over a year to me is not Kz's fault it's the dealers fault for not making an attempt to satisfy their customer, but as we all know it's the blame name, it's not me it's the other guy ....
Stay Safe
Chuck
