I have a question. I have 2018 256rkt Durango sport . Somehow with my camper sitting in it’s shed something or someone, I suspect a certain granddaughter who will remain nameless, I had a dent show up in the side under the door of the outside kitchen above the plastic finder . I got most of the dent out but it had separated the caulk around the fender in a small spot and I had to take the fender partially loose to fix the dent . My question is , is this silicone caulk. It’s clear but after reading about recaulking RVs a lot if not all people say not to use silicone . It’s not a place that matters I know but if it’s silicone there I assume the rest of the caulk on the sides around the doors , windows and moldings is also and it got me to thinking about when it needs recaulking it all looks good now but it’ll need it soon enough. After reading about it I was wondering if anyone knew what KZ uses? Also any suggestions on removing the old caulking from the fender would be great . Thanks

I have not replaced a fender on my KZ but I did on a Jayco. The fender was not caulked, on the roof Dicor self leveling and Geocel 28127V Pro Flex on other areas. Windows have butyl tape under the outside trim. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q244d2jlBw

I don't know what KZ used, but it would have been something like this. You do not want to use silicone anywhere on an RV because it is almost impossible to remove and nothing sticks to it, not even more silicone.

I was at the factory last summer having some repairs done and as a bonus they gave me two tubes of Geocel 2300 MHRV sealant. They recommended only to use that.

Ok glad to hear it’s not silicone KZ used . That leaves me with another question. Do I need to remove the old caulk or can I just go over it assuming it is pro flex or something like it ?

That’s what I decided, I got a tube of pro flex . I think I’m going to have to completely remove the fender to get the old caulk off that stuff is stubborn. I tried to get it off with the fender still on but I think it will be easier to take it off clean bothe the fender and the side of the camper and start over from scratch. I’m thinking about trying to heat it up with a hair dryer and see if that helps since it kinda cold . Thanks for the input

Update : had nice weather today so I got the fender repaired today. Took the fender off ,after a lot of work and a heat gun , got all the old caulk off . Reinstalled the fender and caulked it with pro flex . After taking the fender off I’ve about decided that the cause of the problem was just the thin metal was wavy and the caulk was holding it to the fender and just turned loose letting the metal go back to its shape. The self tapping screws holding it on to the very thin aluminum were not holding much so I put plastic drywall anchors on the screws like nuts it worked really good . The hard part was getting the old caulk off that stuff is stubborn , that’s a good thing unless you want it off . Heat gun on low did the trick but still took time and patience to not mess up the paint or plastic fender . All good now looks like new !
