Looking for everyone’s thoughts on overall build quality and manufacturer service for the Durango series. Have FR 5er now and go back and forth to cut my losses now or keep going down the road. Really like the 382mbq model though.

To a degree you get what you pay for. IMHO the Durango offers a good value. Are they trimmed with fine Brazilian hardwood? Nope. Will the cabinet doors fall off every trip? Nope. Am I plagued with leaks from plumbing? Nope. Have I had any issues after thousands of miles? Yep, one or two minor issues, but nothing that was trip ending or even unexpected. In short, one must tailor their expectations to the price point where they are shopping.

Interesting question. We went to the RV show today and I saw the 2020 KZ models. I was impressed! We have a 2017 and they have made many improvements in the Gold models. Hard to put a finger on it, but the overall quality in general is just better. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a Durango Gold ... again.

Edd505 ... they have modified the rear kitchen model and it is very nice. Bigger, at 41 feet, but man was it nice. It was about equal to the 384 as a choice “IF” we were to make a change ... but we have that “special” upgrade, so we just enjoyed looking.
it has a “horizontal pantry”. Two full length slide trays that can carry 200 lbs each (made by MorRyde) that gives full access to your pantry area. It was very creative and functional. As I said, I was impressed.

I never miss the rv show (I have to wait a month to go to the one here). I open it up and close it down that day and check out almost every one of them. I go ONLY to look and see... not purchase.

Not sure I would like the 41 ft our seem a perfect size for us. The 41 might be nice if I didn't still have the sticks & bricks place. Only thing we would have liked was the panty as DW loves to cook. Two pantry shelves that big need to be in opposing slides or you would be running with a list to the pantry side. Shelves full of cookies ..... who's making the coffee?

Alright guys thanks for the help. The 2017 Sandpiper is going for sure after the last trip to the shop. I keep seeing where Grand design and Jayco are the way to go. It I can’t help but love the floor plan with382 and the price point. I don’t expect perfection just to have occasional camping trips with no problems. Maybe we can talk the DW into the Durango. We both love the thought of the porch.

We both love the thought of the porch. FWIW, when I was shopping a few years, KZ and Jayco had near-identical models that I'd locked in on. After seeing the Jayco model, and looking at a couple different KZ 1500 models (never did find the exact one I was interested in), the KZ was firmly #1 on my list. Main reasons it was #1 were: 1) just "felt" better built after spending 30 minutes looking each over; 2) KZ has larger tanks, especially black. We boondock frequently, and that makes a =huge= difference. Also, more fresh capacity; 3) KZ has more cargo capacity; 4) I talked to both factories, asking some basic questions, and I liked KZ's responses more than Jayco's. Also, reading people's experiences with both, especially after the Thor buyouts, made me feel that KZ was the better choice. Lyle

Lyle thanks for the input. I appreciate that. I’m so hesitant to pull the trigger again so I do appreciate the honest experience you had.
Thanks Ryan

For those with the 382 mbq any issues with the rear deck leaking water into the coach or issues with the door not closing properly when the unit is on any angle other than perfectly level? Also those of you have a dish washer does your wife like that or is it a waste of space?

Can't answer the dish washer, (love the washer/dryer) but can add to the brand. I owned a Jayco Eagle for a couple years, good unit but the fit & finish was much nicer and the KZ was much lighter inside. Good luck with your search!

The dishwasher. I really looked at it as a waste of space to begin with. We've used ours a few times but we really do like it. Having friends over for steak and using real dishes. Who wants to eat a steak on a paper plate?

Well I can say after more than 20K miles an three years our Durango Gold 384 has held together
pretty well, as with other some minor fixes here an there ... Like Ron an a few others we did change
out to the MorRyde suspension an cross bracing along with the wet bolts an MorRyde King pin but
that was our choice ...
If your read my post from a few years ago you will see why we bought the Kz product instead of the other brands we were looking at an the price point was far better along with how our unit was built ... As well if you read the thread kzfamilyforum.com/thread/1681/buy-kz-trailer you will see a number of comments along with ours why owners like Kz ... As others have stated will you have some problems, yes but most if not all will be minor from what we have experienced, you have to remember your trailer is a rolling earthquake going down the road at 60mph so things will happen ... The other thing that convinced us was that we bought the show model at the RV show we went to ... We looked at the trailer we own after it had been sitting at the show with numbers of people walking thought it, pulling, grabbing, twisting anything an everything an it was still holding up to all that ...
As you can read on this site there are some owners who have had some problems an also some posts that talk about how bad the Kz product is, but you have to use your BS filter to see though the large part of this ...
As well one has to remember that you are like the other manufacturer's web pages an forms on a
site were there are Kz owners for the most part an love the brand ...You will see the same sort of dedication an loyalty to a band on other MFG forms as well, but I believe once you walk thought a
Kz product you will see the difference in workmanship, you also see that the Kz people care about
you an their product an listen to what you have to say ...
But saying all this it's about the dealer you deal with, Kz cares about the people who buy their product,
but some but not all dealers do not have the caring about customers that the Kz people have an thus it
reflects back on Kz an not the dealer ...
I believe like we do that Kz gives you more bang for the buck an the believe in their product !!!
Safe Travels an good luck with what ever you buy, but even if you don't buy a Kz stop by an say Howdy.... Were a friendly bunch an there is lots of knowledge about other products here on the form because we all have owned other brands before we bought our Kz

Hi! New to this forum, but certainly not new to rvs. I've been on the hunt for a new RV for over a year now, and have arrived at the 382mbq model after a TON of searching. Started looking for a toy hauler - that idea got shot down, then several other mfgs before I settled on this one. Just walked through one of these this past weekend, and maybe now I've found what I want / need. I'm going to be watching reports on this model, I'd love to know how everyone else fares with theirs. We are going to buy our new tow vehicle first, then we're going to spring for the new fiver next Spring.

It's not about towing, it's about carrying... Lyle
