We have a 2019 Durango Gold 356 RLT with I believe are the new Solid Steps. Has anyone done any mod's to remove the steps for when you store it. If you don't have enough room you will not be able to get inside.
Thanks

one of the common complaints, no room. Not sure how they mount, can you unbolt them?

When I go down to the storage unit I will have to look. Someone on the Forrest River forum talked about drilling out rivets and use ball pins. I will look to see if that would work, that way I could take off the steps before putting in storage and use a small ladder to get inside

I believe that drilling out rivets and use ball pins would work for two reasons 1. two years ago I screwed up our MorRyde Step-above steps, I drilled out the rivets an replaced them once I had straighten out the steps ....
2. Last year at the Kz rally we had the MorRyde Strut Assist installed, they drilled out the rivets on the top of the steps, installed the Strut Assist assembly an re-riveted the steps back on ... The only problem I see is that unlike the bottom where the legs have pins to adjust them the metal is thicker so they won't bend-in ... thus you might add a small peace of metal to the inside of the step where it attaches to the swing plate attached to the trailer ... Thus you would have a little more meat were the ball pins go thought like the bottom ...
Since I have only worked with an saw the MorRyde Step-above steps being moded an not looked at the Lippert (LCI ) I can only speak about MorRyde steps an not the Lippert (LCI) but I see know
reason why they also couldn't be moded to accomplish the same thing
Added Note:
It may be possible to find some square peace of aluminum tubing that would fit the inside of the
step thus reinforcing such ... A small block of aluminum tubing not steel maybe 6 to 8 inches long
tack welded to the inside not out side of the leg an then drilled out to fit the pins would strengthen the leg as needed ...
I say aluminum tubing not steel because you don't want to mix an match such

Well I went down to look at the Solid Steps on our 356RLT Gold yesterday, Had to pull the camper out about half way so I could open the door. Pulled the steps down and took off 6 bolts and took the steps off. Took about 10 minutes but it was 17 degrees outside and windy. Was really easy to do but it would have been easier if it was warm out. Set the steps aside for now and will put them back on when we take it out of storage. I parked it now so I can get in anytime using a small step ladder.

Make sure you get the box to replace the old steps
Can't wait to get ours out of storage in a few months so I can mount mine

I'm not replacing them, I just removed them so I can get in the camper when in storage. When I take it out, all I have to do is bolt it back on with the 6 bolts
