I have a question for the group. As new fifth wheel owner, I'm trying to make sure I set it up correctly. Thru the years I have seen many trailers with and just as any without king pin tri pods. So, is it a personal thing, or is there a valid reason either way? Thanks to all!

it Makes a difference on our trailer, don’t always use it. If the movement while in bed bothers you than I would say yes.

What ^^^^^ he said! Spend the extra money and put some JT Strongarms, or the like, on. Makes a world of difference. Our D1500 came with JTs from the factory. Actually, just having the 4 pt auto level is so much more stable that the couple times I forgot to tighten down the JTs, it was hardly noticeable. ;-)

My tripod has been sitting in the barn for years, unused. I third the opinion that JT Strongarms are a way better use of money.

Thanks, I'll look in to those FWIW, JTs aren't the only ones out there. IIRC, BAL makes something similar and there are a lot who have DIY'd their own. Lyle

Our trailer came with the JT strong arms. We found them to be worthless. Not sure how they are suppose to keep the king pin from moving. Guess it all depends on where your bed is.

Non stop king pin moving, what they stop is the RV wiggle walking. Just keep the legs as short as possible, that equals less wiggle. Strong arms & short legs might work, I'm happy just keeping the legs short. Even with 6 point auto level I still use a stack of legos under each leg.

I made my own Bipod king pin jack that bolted on the sides of the 12" wide king pin frame and still experienced side to side 'wiggle' then I ditched it and diy'd some strong arm type braces, that stopped 99% of it. when I have those in and my wheel tighteners, the camper has almost zero movement

You do have to use them correctly. What I do, after reading about it on here several years ago, is to level my FW, then raise the nose just a hair and tighten down the JTs. I'll then drop the nose back down to level, putting pressure on the JTs. I'm talking like a half inch, max. Literally, just a bump. The =only= way you'll get all the movement out of a FW is to literally block the frame from front to rear. Lyle

In 20 years of camping in a fifth wheel I have never used one, not saying they don't work, I just don't mind if the camper moves a little.

I’m with you ... a little movement is no big deal, it is an RV after all. For you “sensitive” folks, DO NOT buy a boat, non stop movement😂😂😂😂.
