The DW and I live in NE Ohio and travel every year to Florida for 5-6 months to get out of the cold winter weather. This year started like all the rest. While traveling south on interstate 77 somewhere around Wytheville Virginia, the Lippert Rotoflex kingpin failed. This made for a very interesting and rough ride. At my next fuel stop I inspected the king pin and found the rubber torsion spring tore away from the lower pivoting shoe and started to migrate towards the rear. This cause a somewhat violent rocking action in the kingpin. Every roadway imperfection and passing truck could now be felt. Coming to the conclusion that the kingpin could not come completely apart I continued on another 600 miles or so to our destination. After arriving at the campground and trying to unhook the trailer, because the pivoting lower shoe would not go into a neutral position, the trailer kingpin would not release from the hitch. It has to be forced apart.
A call to lippert and a case number was issued. And so I waited. Two days later I received an email...a customer service survey. How was your customer service experience with LCI??? I called them back gave them the case number and they told me I should have received several emails asking for additional information. None were recieved. After getting that resolved sending photos and the vin number lippert sent me a replacement kingpin at no charge. They even went as far as to give me an upgraded king pin to an Air Ride.
Thank you to all involved at LCI.

That’s a great outcome .... better than you could have expected. I’m hearing more and more good things about LCI’s response to defects. Personally, I had pin box flexing issues that LCI stepped up and addressed the issue. The only thing I would say to LCI is if they would improve the manufacturing processes to improve the product, there would be less need to have the great recovery actions. I think LCI is headed in the right direction, and their reputation will improve as a result.

I had heard of another similar failure, is this a common RotoFlex issue & do we need to contact LCI before the failure? I have the pin on my 17 model.

My unit is well out of warranty also and they sent an upgrade no charge. I don't think it can completely fail and come apart to the point where you run the risk of losing the trailer, but it does make for and interesting towing experience.

Glad it worked out for you jetzen, I was very impressed with LCI at the rally this year, they were johnny on the spot when owners ask for service or repairs or just general information regarding their products Safe Travels Chuck

Have to add my kudos to Sandra Berg at LCI, she helped me finally get the correct window replacement for our 1500 Durango, first time around. It was refreshing to find someone there who knew what I needed and the steps to make it happen!

I emailed Lippert about the NOT SO smart arm awnings that have been a problem since before I ever looked at the trailer and have had MANY modules replaced since I have owned it. There was still a problem until last week when another module was replaced. I was asking if they would be able to wire my awnings to use from the control panel inside and do away with the smart arm modules and the first words in their reply were... Lippert offers a one year warranty and I need to contact KZ about that. They design a piece of junk awning system with recalls and constant problems and that was their answer.

I actually thought I was going to get a “smart awning”. My pin box flex issues took up my attention, so I never got to that ... guess I got lucky.
