what happened to cause a bowl like depression / soft spot under rear wheel of motorcycle in toy hauler? I use a front wheel chock and bike was tied down with four ratchet straps. after 4 days travel I found a depression in the floor under the rear wheel. will be taking to dealer to check up on warranty work. unit is only 9 months old.

I don't have a toy hauler but your post says you used ratchet straps to tie down. Any chance the straps were too tight? I have used them to pull things together. I tie down ATV's and compress the suspension on the trailer with 2x10 flooring as bounce can loosen the straps. If that floors MDF it might be soft enough to cause that type dent.

thanks Edd505; I do pull the straps tight enough to compress the suspension about 1/2 way. I agree a bouncing 800 pound motorcycle would tear up the bike and probably tear out the tie down brackets in the trailer. have towed this bike for about 12 years on a harbor freight trailer with 3/4" plywood floor. never any problems! I cant believe KZ would use anything less in a toy hauler.it has me scratching my head. dan

Might simply want to put a 12 x 24, or larger, piece of =real= plywood over the spot to keep it from getting worse.

hi Lyle, that would keep it from getting worse but I am curious why it happened at all. even if the bike was bouncing around I should not have a depression in the floor. all i can imagine is that there is a joint / seam of two pieces of plywood without a support beam under the joint and combination of bike weight and pressure from straps pulling down suspension collapsed unsupported plywood ends. at any rate I am going to make appointment with my dealer this week to see about manufacturer repair. then I will definitely put down real piece of plywood over area where bike sits! might take a while but I will let you know what happens. dan

If you're under warranty, put pressure on your dealer and KZ to fix it. Lyle

Good News (I hope!) Today a KZ claims Rep called me to ask what I was carrying in the toy hauler that damaged the floor. told him it was a 470 lb motorcycle using front wheel chock and 4 ratchet straps to tie town. The Rep said that that weight on the small contact patch of two tires would be a lot of force. He also said he had read all the literature and instructions available to me as the original owner and saw nothing that would indicate i might be over-loading the flooring. He said it was not his decision to authorize the repair but he is going to recommend that KZ repair the sub-flooring and replace the vinyl floor covering. he asked that in the future I put down reinforcement over the floor when carrying motorcycle. I told him I would use a 1"thick sheet of plywood under the bike, and I will! also asked him to put this in the owners manual to prevent happening again! this is looking to be a good ending! I did troll this site before buying KZ, my decision to buy KZ was based on the positive inputs of forum members about KZ customer experiences. I hope mine turns out good in the end.

Hell with "put this in the owners manual". How about actually building a floor that will withstand securely tying down a single 500 lb bike without collapsing? Glad KZ seems to be stepping up to the plate on this, as they should. Lyle

sorry Lyle, my dyslexia is kicking! that was supposed to be a 740 lb motorcycle. dan Ah! That =do= make some difference, but they =still= should have addressed that issue in the design phase. Even using a guide channel loose on the floor would likely have spread the load enough to have prevented this. Where was the =dealer= in this? A smart dealer (yeah, somewhat of an oxymoron) would have at least asked what you're putting in the garage and how big it was. Lyle

Good news for me! Thursday went to my dealer and asked service manager status of my warranty claim. He said KZ had approved warranty repairs, and dealer was waiting materials to make repairs. Couldn't give a date for completed repairs but at least I don't have to fix it myself. hopefully it will be done so I can take it to Charleston for the Christmas lights. dan

hi EDD505 really don't know what they are using, but in an earlier conversation the KZ rep who was reviewing my claim he said he was going to recommend repairing the flooring and replacing the vinyl covering. I jump to the conclusion that the damaged sections of underlay will be replaced with the original spec material and vinyl covering will also be original pattern that went with my interior color scheme. I will not ever trust the flooring in this "TOY HAULER" to haul my motorcycle without additional cover material that I know will support the weight and stress of a 740 lb motorcycle and semi compressed suspension. Perhaps an additional piece of 1" plywood the width of the tie down brackets under the full length of the bike. dan

Fix the damage, but do nothing to keep it from happening again. Glad that KZ =is= warranting the damage, at least. (cynic/off) Lyle

well it finally happened! got the call today, trailer is ready to pick up. Went to look at it and vinyl floor looks great, I do have a black transition strip under the bathroom door. I found out the originating problem. The floor was 3/4" OSB (particle board!!). about half the price of plywood and also about half the strength (my opinion). The dealership did replace the floor with 3/4" plywood! I will pick it up tomorrow AM. Perhaps I will have no more surprises with this trailer. my confidence level is so high that in future I will use additional 1" thick plywood under the motorcycle tires to ensure that my toy doesn't BREAK my toy hauler again, it is no longer under warranty.
