Hello campers thank you for the add in the group! We just purchased a 2013 Sportsman Classic 19bhs, all we do is of the grid camping this is the biggest trailer we've ever owned, pop-ups and teardrops. Our question is what size generator would you use to power the 8000BTU A/C? Thank you all in advance!

We have a 130rb with the 8000 btu ac unit. We use an AI-tech duel fuel (propane or gasoline) 2000 watt inverter generator. it works great with power to spare. that ac unit never draws more than 800 watts and usually runs on 650-700 watts. We purchased on Amazon. This Generator has the 30 amp socket for your 30amp rv power cable but you do need a $9 adapter (tt30 female to LR5-30 male).

I think I would want a bit more than a 2000W but I am not an expert on generators. It may run the A/C just fine, but if someone whips on the Microwave or some other hi draw appliance, you may have issues with just 2k watts. I would highly recommend an inverter generator though.

I agree with 13z714x4 on needing a bigger inverter/generator. It’s the startup wattage you need to get it going which can be double of running watts needed. I recently bought two I/G’s to run my 15k AC. Research on here and other sites said I needed 3500 startup watts. I bought a 50 amp parallel kit so if I need to run both, I can. And the inverters are way quieter

Yah, I have a 3300W inverter for my 2011 Sportsmen 19BH which has the small Window type AC unit. I think it is 5000 BTU. You can see the pull on the genny when you first start the AC unit and then it settles down and runs easily. I don't have to worry if the AC is running and someone pops a bag of popcorn in the Microwave or the wife plugs in the coffee pot. Let us know what you decide. Bruce

Have a look at installing a soft start on the AC, that way a smaller generator will work just fine.
