We are looking at starting out on the rv path with the Sportsmen Classic 181BH. It lists the GVWR as 3,500 and our 2015 Toyota (with the towing package) is rated to tow 5,000 lbs. Is it really that simple? :-D Are there any other vehicle considerations I am missing? Thank you! Tom

It's not that easy. Towing a 3500lb (dry) camper with a vehicle that has a max tow rating of 5000lbs is cutting it real close. Also need to look at the max tongue weight your vehicle can handle along with your payload capacity. Payload capacity includes the driver, gear and any passengers. So if the truck has a payload capacity of 1500lbs you need to subtract the weight of the driver, passengers and gear. Then this leaves you with what you can safely tow. The tongue weight of the vehicle puts downward pressure (weight) which also needs to be subtracted from the payload capacity.

twigginton, mdcamper is right in what he has stated, but also think of this. all the camping gear, dishes, cloths, food in pantry, propane in tanks, water in fresh water tank, black water in the holding tank, your DW, you, the dog an kids ...
So may things that people don't realize what goes into a trailer so it great that you have ask before jumping off the cliff an thinking you are ok an then finding out that you are not ...
As well the salesmen or gal may tell you that your ok when you not, they are out to sell a trailer an 90 percent of them have never owned a trailer or camped in one so be careful when dealing with them ... Believe me there snake oil salesmen an gals but every so often you will run across one who will be honest but they are far an few between ...
Read the good an bad dealers postings on this form an you can find out who is good an who is bad, if you don't see the RV dealer on that thread ask here on the form, is the dealer good or bad, how is the service, do they strand behind the product they are trying to sell you ...
I you do decide to buy look up the PDI thread on the form so you are an informed buyer, don't go into this venture blind folded, ask here on the form, most people here are very upfront an will not belittle you for asking, trust me ...
Good luck an keep posting
Chuck
