Trailer---2017 Sonic 190
Owners---RVers for 22 years
Storage---outdoors, protected by a steel carport. All food removed after each outing.
Issue---Mouse damage for first time in our RV history. Underbelly of trailer heavily infested with mice. Insulation is contaminated with urine and feces. Problems with wiring.
Goal---#1, seal all entranceways on bottom of trailer. #2, bring attention to Venture owners #3 Invite the manufacturer to re-engineer their manufacturing methods
After noticing minor signs of mice inside the trailer, we started a search for entrances. Starting at the bottom and working up, we crawled under the trailer. It was quickly discovered that the only thing keeping the mice out of our Venture was a thin layer of plastic identical to cheap tarp material. It is stretched over 1 1/2" of fiberglass mat insulation. Once they got thru that paper thin layer, they had access to all the usual entrances around pipes etc. The fiberglass mat between the plastic and the floor became perfect mouse habitat. Seeing that there is no way to reinforce the thin plastic or seal its holes and the insulation was disgusting and ineffective, we gutted the whole layer of plastic and floor insulation. Now we have a blank slate and an opportunity to seal it correctly.
Venture would say I have a mouse problem...I say they have a cheap construction method incapable of deterring even a minor mouse attack.
We plan to cover the bottom with a lightweight material who's primary function is to seal for mice and moisture. Insulation on the floor is a non-issue.
What methods have others used as an underbelly covering in this scenario?
