Butyl Tape Specs for Resetting a Window

I have a 2010 14' KZ Sportman Classic on which the large front window is leaking at the top. It seems, given its age, that the solution is to remove and reset the window.  My question is what width and thickness of butyl seal tape should I use.  Also, any tips or lessons learned doing this job would be appreciated.
