Has anyone upgraded their converter? I'm wondering how tricky it would be to get rid of the stock converter and install a better 3 or 4 stage smart converter? I have a Sportsmen Classic 160rbt. I keep my batteries connected to a smart charger in the basement when I'm not camping. Would be nice if I didn't have to pull the battery out of the trailer every time I get home from camping.
Thanks, Greg

Call this guy for the best advice for your particular needs. Have your make and model numbers ready when calling. I don't know what converter you currently have but it may be "good enough".

I pulled the converter from my Sportsman 100 280THR and looked up the model number. Turns out it is one of the better converters and I really wouldn't gain anything from upgrading.

Interesting, I just assumed my converter would be low end. I guess I shouldn't just jump to that conclusion. This weekend I'll take a look at what I have and see what the guy that lynnmor suggested has to say.

The WFCO converters are known as being cheap cr@pola. The one in our Spree died in it's 3rd season and also destroyed the battery. They don't charge batteries properly. Google WFCO along with junk & garbage for lots of opinions. We replaced ours with a Progressive Dynamics from bestconvertor.com. Here's a photo of the two side by side. Note how much bigger the components in the PD are, plus it has two fans. It is also good for AGM batteries. When our battery died, we replaced it with an Optima AGM and moved it inside. The PD simply slides right into the converter/panel enclosure without any mods. Gil, Deb and Dougal the Springer Spaniel 2014 KZ Spree 262RKS 2009 F250

We replaced ours with a Progressive Dynamics from bestconvertor.com. Thanks for the link. How hard was it to install the converter? I'm not the handiest guy in the world but I don't think I'm a total idiot either. Greg

Disconnect 12 & 120 volt wires from old converter, slide it out and throw it away. Slide in the new one and connect the new wires and you're done. It's that simple! I can't really compare the units in your photo due to the website imprint over the left converter.
