Our brand new D333RLT caught fire when we turned on the refrigerator in preparation for its first trip. The dealer said they had never seen a fire like this one, in the flue apparently. Still waiting to find out what they will do about it. It’s a Norcold refrigerator.

Please keep us posted as to the cause. Wonder if it was a wasp nest, mouse nest, or a Norcold malfunction in the flue. Please keep us updated. Thank you for posting this.

Let us know what they find. That sucks on a new rig or any rig.

Sorry to hear about this, but please keep us informed as to what the dealer finds. I can think of several causes.

The dealer called today and they have hired a third party RV consultant to look at the trailer, so the cause is still unknown until he sees it. Meanwhile, they are canceling the original deal and we are selecting another new trailer. I’ll post more when we find out the cause.

That's a stand-up dealer in that THEY cancelled the deal and without you having to make a stink about it. This is a perfect situation where a true dealer network, like auto dealers, an identical rig might be located and swapped out. Hell, KZ could step in and broker it just to have it back at the factory for a "forensic" teardown to figure this out. Lyle

I'm sure at one point or another Kz will get the trailer back or at least have a rep from the factory come look at it ... I'm glad that they replaced the trailer an hopefully there will be no major or even minor problems with your new trailer Safe Travels Chuck

Interestingly, the trailer with the fire is now being shown as a “new” unit available for purchase at the dealer? Obviously repairs have been done, but I doubt any kind of forensic exam was carried out, and it’s obvious it did not go back to KZ. We asked to be informed on why the refrigerator caught fire and have heard nothing. It is concerning that an unsuspecting buyer will soon own this unit.

Peachy, Would you feel comfortable tell us your dealer's name or at least the town or city of the dealer. A few of us on this site are going to the rally next month perhaps we can get an answer to safe-guard our RVs.

The dealer is Folsom Lake RV in Folsom California. They had some installs to do on the replacement trailer we picked out, but nothing major. We now can’t figure out why it has been ten days and we still haven’t been able to take delivery of the replacement fifth wheel, which is exactly like the first one except for some options we wanted? Since the turnaround time was so short between the time they received the burned unit and the time they put it back on the lot for sale we are wondering if parts were robbed from the replacement trailer to make the burned unit salable?? That would be underhanded at best.

peachy,
Not trying to protect the dealer or Kz but Kz orders just enough parts to build these trailers, so if you want a different cabinet, water fosset's, trim package, theater seating etc they have to order it from the MFG who make such ... The MFG who makes these things then ships it to Kz who in-turn ships it to the
dealer who then installs such ... As well if the MFG dozen't have the part then they have to make such as well an i'm sure they don't just set up tooling for one part, again it's all about supply an demand ...
Personally I think Kz could cut out the middle man (them) an have the MFG of the part ship direct to the dealer
instead of handling the part themselves, possibly in some case they do ... I believe in accountability but some
times it gets beyond ridicules an seems as if these company's spend a dime to save a penny LOL ... While sitting at the Kz Factory waiting on our 5th wheel to be repaired I saw truck after truck coming an going with parts of all shapes an sizes ... When I ordered a ladder to replace our ladder I damaged it took a little over two weeks after I ordered it to get to the west coast state of Washington at the dealer ...
Safe Travels an hears hoping you get your trailer soon an make sure you inspect it really good before driving it off the lot, if it were me I'd do another PDI to make sure all is done as ordered an they have not taken anything away from what was already there
