Hi everyone! Is there any advice anyone has when it comes to operating a side slide? I'm really worried I may mess something up.

Welcome to the forum!! Make sure your trailer is level before opening a slide out.

Welcome to the forum. Jetzen pretty much covered it. Level / stabilize it then run them out.

Good advice from others ... I would add that you need to make sure there is nothing in the way of the slide going out or coming in. Trees, Power poles, open drawers or cabinets, furniture, etc. All the interior stuff is subject to moving, sliding, opening, etc. these rigs take a beating from our highways.

Ronc said it well. We have a wardrobe slide, the small shirt closet next to the bed had opened on the road. I could not see it when the slide was in....yes, it caught the door as the slide was opening. I don't know what possessed me to look into the bedroom as I was opening the wardrobe slide but gladly I did before it damaged the door. I now open the wardrobe slide somewhat and look before opening all the way.
We all have our system to measure the distance the slides need when extended, especially when in a tight site...arm lengths, a pole, good eye, etc. Not only does it avoid the accident, it prevents the frustration when you are unhitched and find there isn't enough room. YUCK!!!!

I carry an old broom handle that has the lengths of each slide marked on it. Checking to make sure certain cabinets and drawers are closed inside has to happen before operating slides in my RV. Otherwise we start messing up things.

Welcome to the forum!! Make sure your trailer is level before opening a slide out. Maybe it is obvious, but the same is true for retracting the slides ... always be level before the slides go in or out.
