We would like to put a slide-awning on our slide. Our slide has a refrigerator and couch. The problem is that with the refrigerator vent so close to the top/edge of the slide there appears to be no place to secure the awning arm. Our dealer said it can't be done. Anyone out there been successfully installing one? If so, could you send pictures and description, also awning company would be appreciated.

I've seen it done. They mount it on the flange. I believe that they use the cheap Dometic unit that has rather close spacing for the mount holes. Remove the top fridge vent and carefully measure where the framing is. You have very little room for error so that the screws break out the bottom or pierce the roofing at the top.

Don't waste your time or money they are not worth it plus you are going to reduce the air flow for the fridge and shorten the life of the fabric because of the loss of air flow and increased heat. Slide toppers in general are a waste....leaves still get in and need to be cleaned out

Thanks for both your inputs, we were pretty sure it was questionable. Our recent concern was the snow we had to climb up and push out before bringing in the slide. I one case, the slushy snow froze down and then we had a real problem. I know, don't be so anxious to get out so early....just can't wait for the warm weather to get here in Western NY. Perhaps, the awning would not have done well with the frozen snow/slush either. Your points were ones we had heard before....this is our first unit with a slide....want to check all the options. Thanks again.

I've got slide awnings on my 2012 Durango 295CS and it's got the fridge in one of the slides. No problem. I love my slide awnings. I just wash them off with 303 Fabric Cleaner when we get back from our trips, then let them dry out before putting the slides back in. I haven't had any problems with high winds causing them to bellow nor have I had problems with leaves getting in the coach. Heck, when I first picked up my trailer in PA at the dealer in winter we stayed a few days in a nearby campground to make sure the trailer was okay. I forgot about the freezing temps we were in when we packed up to leave camp early in the morning. When I ran the slides back in there was huge sheets of ice on top of the slide awnings that came crashing down as they rolled in. Scared the crap out of me. It sounded like panes of glass breaking.

I disagree with spadoctor, I have a spree 261 rks with slide awning and have had it for 2 years with no problems. I live in Florida so I don't have to deal with snow. But guess what, we have oak trees all around us and the awning saves the day. I use an awning cleaner which helps protect it. No problems with it so far. Hope this helps!

Take a look at the Carefree Ascent model. It has a different design and attachment than all the others. I was looking into one for our 262RKS and it looked like it would fit fine. Only problem is that you can't buy one of their awnings at any old vendor. I had to email them to get a phone number to be able to talk with someone there.
