The one thing I didn't check during the dealer walk through was the front cap lights. I have a brand new 2020 Durango Gold 356RLT. When I got home and was walking through all the systems making sure I understood how they worked, I noticed the front cap lighting didn't come on. I have tried the control panel and the app. Same results. No lights turning on. Does anyone know what to troubleshoot to see if it is something I could fix (loose wire, unplugged connection, etc.) instead of having to take it back to the dealer after just one day. It's the cap lights and not a major issue. Everything else is working great. But it would be nice if those lights would come on too. Thanx.

If your Gold is similar to my 2500, the control unit is in the storage area, on the "ceiling". It has fuses for each function, as well as lots of connections. I would start there. Make sure there aren't any dangling wires or blown fuses.

Like Edd505 I've never used mine as well, check you fuse panel
Added ours works off the App an the panels LED screens inside an outside the trailer same with the large forward awing lighting ... The light on the main slide awning over the door works off a switch which is next to the switch that opens an close's the awning on the slide ...
Safe Travels

Thanks for the replies so far everyone. Like I said, it is just one of those things that I want to work on a new unit. Not something I am really going to use and never did on my last unit. I have already checked all of the fuses and connections at the fuse panel and the controls in the storage compartment. Thank you.

We've used ours a few times ... but they aren't a "must have" ... but if they are there, they should work, I agree with you.

After reading nvguy's reply I think that's where mine is, in the cabinet with the water heater switches, tank gauges etc. I remember mine being on and trying to figure out just how to turn them off.

Ours turns on in the control panel with the slides, level, awning lights, ect. Under lighting. We use ours a good bit. I get up very early most mornings and it has the area around truck lit up.

Hi, we are having this exact same issue. Any resolution yet? The front cap lights are in the control panel with. leveling, awning, slides, etc. Actually shows as cap lights in the Android One Control phone app.

Thanks. Yes we see where to turn the cap lights on at the control panel, but when we turn them on nothing happens. Didn't know if there was a second switch somewhere that could be overriding it or if it is just bad wiring.

As I believe nvguy stated I'd look in the storage area for a fuse block, if found I would pull each an every fuse out an check them with a volt-ohm meter to make sure they have continuity, if you don't have a volt- ohm meter put them up to a light an see if the filament is broken ... The other old trick is to snap your finger on the fuse to see if the filament moves, if it moves it's bad ... My father always stated don't just look at a fuse, test it, it may look good but can be bad, pull it test or replace it never trust your judgement Lastly if you can't find the problem call your dealer an make an appointment an have them try or show you how to turn on lights ... in other words don't drop it off an say the cap lights don't work, have them test such in front of you, better to like like a fool than have a trailer sit for weeks at a time an then get the call that the lights worked all along Ugh Good Luck

Not sure what the exact cause was for this issue, but it wasn't a simple fix or an oversight on our part. Dealer says it's now fixed. If I get more info on the cause, I'll post here.

I like to use the cap lights on ours when I need to work around the front of the trailer at night. They're amber and don't attract bugs. But... last fall we camped at a local lake for a week and across the road some people brought their trailer early, set it up, turned all the outside lights on, then left for a couple of days. They were super bright and beyond annoying! It turned out they had just bought the trailer. When they returned and realized how bright the lights were, they apologized to everyone camping around them. Turned out to be super nice people.

The only time we ever turned ours on was at the Kz rally were there was four Durango Golds parked together, turned them on at least three out of the fours days, never was on before an after that has never been on again since ... As far as the door outside light I hate to even use it because it's way to bright an the angle it is set to shines into or on the next door neighbors trailer, not good Ugh !!! Safe Travels Chuck
