Since deciding to keep our Escalade, I have been looking at upgrades that make sense. The original springy steps always bugged me as did their appearance when retracted. Morryde makes a replacement unit that is a snap to install and really makes the steps solid with adjustable ground contacts: www.morryde.com/products/194-stepabover They worked very well on our trip last weekend. The original steps were a bit more involved to remove but once out, I installed some additional storage that should come in handy: www.morryde.com/products/206-step-storage-box?return=%2Fproduct-category%2F12-stepsHave not used it yet but I like the look over the fold out steps....

Won't the dirt fall inside when you close them? I have been in sites so muddy there was no way not to have mud on the steps.

That is a concern for sure, we keep a mat at the bottom and inside the door and brush the steps off before storing them. Mud is an issue regardless of steps. Trading rock solid stability for a little maintenance was worth it to me, especially when loading and unloading the rv. Might not be for everyone.

Edd We have the MorRyde steps from the get go in out 384 an love them, MorRyde found a crack in the 1st set of steps last year at the rally, gave us a new set at no cost ... As far as dirt, I sweep ours off an like wahoo I have a mat I put down on the ground as well a just inside the door ... Is there a little dirt or a small stone or two get in, heck yes, but even with the old steps we had in our coachmen this happened LOL ... We have even add the hand rail to our steps an makes it just that much more solid for Hildi to get in an out an for me since i am such a cults LOL .. See you an the DW soon I hope either on the road or at the rally Chuck & Hildi

We have the Lippert Solid Steps which are basically the same except with a larger top step, and yes, you do get a little more dirt inside the trailer. But they sure are a lot more solid and sturdy, and as tall as these new 5th wheels are, that's nice. I'm thinking about adding the rail like Chuck was talking about. Unfortunately, none of us are getting any younger so we can use all the help we can get!
Sorry, didn't realize this thread was as old as it is.

I haven't had a problem with dirt falling inside. If it's loose dirt it falls off outside as you lift it up. Any mud would stick on the step and wouldn't drop off.

If the dirt was not an issue why do they make this? Someone thinks like I do. link

So I replaced the triple fold out steps on our 2007 Escalade above with the Morride Step above product and liked it well enough other than in tight spaces i.e. using the RV bathroom while at a service station. The 2011 Escalade has the same Lippert triple fold out unit that I replaced on the last one. Been looking a quad fold out units as a replacement and like the AlumiTread model. In its uncanny wisdom, LCI makes the triple units 27.5 inches wide and the quad unit 28 inches wide. The mounting brackets are welded in place. Has anyone faced this and found a clever way to make the quad steps work? Thanks in advance...

Lots of talk on the solid steps I ordered these and they await at the house, I'll report back after I get them installed.

Thanks for the link, it seems like a good idea. Before adding devices, one should examine the step mounting as done at the factory to see if it could be improved. Mine was mounted very poorly allowing excessive movement, so I made some angle brackets that more than doubled the support. It may be that the step movement can be improved enough that nothing else is needed.

Thanks....yup, looked at those a while back but they won't work on quad steps due to the extra fold. Otherwise looks like a great product. Guessing I will try Lippert Solid Steps this time after using Morryde products on the last two units.

Installed the quad Solid Steps yesterday. The Escalade threshold has an aluminum channel extrusion for LED stair lights that blocked proper installation. Using a cut off tool, I was able to remove it without issue and the steps fit perfectly plus I have a 12v source for another step light. I went with the lift assist to make it easier for the bride but she doesn't like it. Sometimes you just cannot win:) That big first step is worth the pain of lifting the steps in and out. Doggie approved!
