I am a full-timer living in my 2018 Sportsman KZ LE 260BHLE. I am having a darn of a time fully emptying my black tank. I bought it used, so maybe there is something in there that is preventing it from draining, or if not, it just isn’t draining! I’m not focusing on the tank monitors, I am basing this on looking down the toilet. I have also gone under the TT and pushed on the black tank to get the water to flow towards the drain. I can feel the water in there!
My trailer is level. Should I put blocks on one side to keep it slightly tilted to encourage flow? Should I dip the nose of the trailer down? Why isn’t it built to naturally slant to encourage flow and allow me to be level?
I do use the black tank flush and I have the wand to clean off the sensors. But even THAT water isn’t able to be fully drained.
I’d love some good ideas because this is driving me nuts. I don’t expect it to be completely dry, but I don’t expect to see (what looks like) many inches when I peer into the toilet and seeing nothing coming out of the drain!
Thank you!!! - Jen

When the hole is cut into the tank, many times the resulting plastic disk is allowed to fall in the tank. If not that, maybe you left the solids dry up and that pile caused a blockage. Not a pleasant job but probing into the toilet and then the outlet with a snake or hose might dislodge something.

Personally, I'd get a clear elbow and drain the tank as you usually to, until it stops running. Then, if you know which end/side the outlet is on, tip the trailer towards that side and see if you get more out, and how much more you get out. While the tanks are =designed= to sit properly under the floor, the actual construction is a whole 'nother ball o'wax. Also, the cutout falling into the tank is a lot more common that you might think, and causes a lot of issues, at least from what I've read on the fora in the past 15 years.

I am guessing folks realize this as they see it floating around via the toilet? Just wondering how I’d fix this for good (if this is my issue). Thanks.

You may need to cut the pipe, remove the blockage and then cement it back together with a coupler. link

It could also be the PO didn't properly drain or use things as intended so there may very well be a dam of sorts (obvious stuff and feminine products) blocking things. Depending on the length of the plumbing from the toilet to the tank, you might try one of those snake video cameras to see just whats down there.

Our daughter stayed in our old KZ New Vision for a few months. I tried to explain to her and her husband how to properly use and dump the black tank. Well they didn't, And here's what happened(s). The black tank valve should always be closed tell your ready to dump it, If you have a good gauge, dump at 3/4, don't wait tell its full. Next, If you have the black tank cleaning system (which mine had) Use it when dumping, Hook it up, let the water start to flush the inside of the tank then pull the dump lever. Let it empty out tell it runs some what clean. Close the valve for a few minutes and repeat, 2-3 times. After 2-3 times shut the water off to the cleaning system, close the dump valve and your good to go tell next time.
Well if you don't do that, and you leave the sewer(black tank valve) open all the time and think it will just all run out(like they did, cuz my ex son in-laws a lazy ass) your wrong. And here's where all the tank build up starts. The solids(poop)and toilet paper mostly just piles up, and the flush water just runs out. Causing a pile, dam, blockage. And ready gets bad if you leave for awhile and let it dry up. It becomes a Poop concrete Dam. Then you have to loosen it up and get it to flush out.
I don't know if this if what happened or not, but if what you are saying is you can fill the tank is heavy and fills like its got stuff in it, I bet that's it.
Here's what I had to do to clear the tank out. Close the valve, fill the tank 1/2 +/- with a water hose inside the trailer and down inside the toilet, let it sit for a while. Pull the valve and see what comes out (i have a clear adapter to watch this) Not pretty but helps you know if your getting solids & paper. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat. And before I got it all broke up I had to sick the hose way into the tank, pulling it in and out a few time's.
Well, It all came out after a hour + of messing with it. I had a buddy on the outside, and me inside running the hose end.
I did it tell I was positive that tank was clean, and also used the cleaning system while at the whole process to help the swirly birds inside spray the tank walls down.
Good Luck with it if your still fighting it.

I know your trailer is fixed an dozen't move but for those that do move around, I put Tide packets an two bags of ice in our toilet ever so often when traveling, you would be surprised at what comes out after a day of driving ... Once setup an I drain the tank, add a bit of water an another tide pod along with a freshener, this seems to keep out tank clear an clean Safe Travels Chuck

I am convinced, if you want a travel trailer waste system to work real well, it has to travel. A stationary tank is unlikely to drain well unless the owner is very careful to try and keep things liquified and to use the tank flushing system liberally. We own a campground full of permanent campers and it is a constant issue. We did have a partial disc of linoleum come out of our tank so it happens. We use Pine-sol and Borax in the tank. GD
