Has anyone had a backup camera installed at the rally, and how did it work?

Ted, is your trailer prewired for a backup camera? If so, it takes about 10 minutes to install one. As for doing it at the rally, I would think it would take a bit of time to do and might be something to have done at KZ before or after the rally. I have the observation camera which stays on all of the time and I like it. It works real good. It is nice to see what's behind you when driving or changing lanes.

I also installed the furrion observation camera. If your trailer is pre-wired it is a simple install. If I remember there were 4 screws to remove a cover plate, attach the wire to the camera and attach the camera by reinstalling the 4 screws. No splicing involved. I think it would be cheaper to buy off the internet than install at the rally. I use my camera as a rear view mirror. For me the screen is too small to use as a backup camera. I look to see if there is anything behind initially, but use my mirrors and spotter.

We driver forward 99% of the time and have accidents 1% of the time. We back 1% of the time and it accounts for 99% of the accidents.

I just installed our backup camera and it works fantastic. I am working on the vlog of installation and testing and it should be up in a week or two.
We purchased a non-furrion type but I used the furrion mount to house the antenna and wiring. So far so good. This one has a 7" screen, HD quality and the video frame rate, even while driving has been very good.

My cousin and her husband, who are rebuilding a '64 GMC bus into an RV, installed a full-on security cam system from Costco. 7 cameras, in total. 2 in the rear, high for the road and low for the hitch/toad; dash cam looking forward; 2 interior cams; one on each side looking back. 2tb hard drive to capture it all. :-) See their adventure at www.beginningfromthismorning.com. Lots of great videos. Lyle

My Gold is not pre wired. I would have thought so. I may just forget it, or consider a wireless one.

I think the “prewired” thing is just for 12v power. The cameras most use are wireless. You can easily pick up 12v power from the high mounted running light at the back of your rig. Just make sure you use the source that is only “on” when the lights are on ... that way you can chose to turn your rear camera on or off by turning your lights on or off.

This is what I have on our 371RTL. It's not working like this. Number one the antenna gets caught up in the awning and I have to point the antenna the wrong way. Now I'm going to cover/plate that location up and move it up top of the awning and I'm going to have to box it out some as well. Putting it in the center might help too.

I have furrion observation camera on my 3911 and does not work good at all, loses signal all the time. Put a remote antenna in the rear window of my truck and still does not work. Antenna on camera is pointed up as well as one in truck still does not work. Will be looking for something new soon.

Too many people with issues on wireless cams for me to mess with it. Probably run a wire from the cab to the bed and put it right next to the 7-way connector. Unless...I can find a small amp to boost the signal. Wonder if the 50w linear off my old CB would work? Lyle

Mine periodically blacks out but it comes right back within a second or two. I figure this is normal since it is wireless and anything could block the signal for a second or two. Not to mention that my truck is almost 22 feet long and my trailer is 40 feet long, so it is approx. 50 to 55 feet from the camera to the monitor.

Mine does the same, it's really bad on bridge overpasses, like the ones on interstates.

I have to say I don't understand this whole camera thing, I liken it to a new gadget I guess Ugh !!! For years I have drove semi's with 40, 45,53ft trailers along with doubles an never needed a camera to either see behind me or back into a dock ... When backing I always get out an looked an do so to this day if I feel there is a problem, going down the road I wiggle the trailer an again do so to this day to see if someone is very close behind me otherwise I don't worry about the car or truck behind
me... When passing I make sure I have cleared the vehicle I'm passing by the distance I see in my mirror of least three or more car lengths ...
If I want to change lanes I just slow down an check my mirrors thus any traffic slide of me passes by ... So if i offended anyone I'm sorry but as stated don't understand this whole camera thing Safe Travels Chuck

Given that plenty of RVers/trucker are of the same 5 options, it's even more imperative to have those options, IMO. I'm a pretty low-mileage RVer, but I've lost count on how many times that I've started a lane change and some idiot cuts over to pass me, out of my blind spot. Yeah, I know about weaving to see what's behind you, but FWs don't "weave" all that much, unless you're willing to do a lane excursion to check, and I'm trying to =change= lanes anyway. Lyle

In case your still interested.
This is a fantastic camera and monitor setup. Worked flawlessly on our latest 5 1/2 hour trip to Virginia over the weekend!
