So we currently have a 5th wheel that is 385 but really 42' long. We are stationary now but when I retire we will want to travel. So should we consider a shorter unit??
I will say that we have had no problems so far with our 40ft G384RLT, but we also pick an choose were we go
We always call ahead an ask about sites, look at the site maps an pick an choose a site that is pretty easy to get into
or a pull though ... I have no problems for the most part backing into a site for the most part, another camper in
Wisconsin told me he was mad at me for backing into a site an only doing one pull-up to straighten up an then
back into the site where we set up
He said it had taken him multiple times to get it right, I told him I had a number
of years backing up trailers of all sizes, he laugh an walked away shaking his head LOL ..
The point here is the more you back the easier it get's in most case's, yes there are tight spots, but if you choose the
spots that you have the best angle an room to manover around an take you time there shouldn't be much of a
problem ... You just have to remember that you can't fit 45ft into a 30ft space
pull look at the space, think to
yourself can I do such, can I fit an if not don't try it, ask for another space if available or move on it's that simple
We when going to national parks always park outside the parks at another camp grounds close by an the drive into
the parks, most time national parks do not have full hook-up an the DW wants everything, so most times State
an National Parks are out as far a camping in them ... There are some that you can fit in but you better make your
reservations a year in advance... We just made reservations at a state park for April, our friends called an hour
later an just got the last spot, that how quickly they fill ...
So Yes having a smaller trailer may get you into more place's but not always, we like the comfort of our 40ft home
on wheels so we watch were we go an have enjoyed many great camp grounds no matter in or out od State an
national parks ...
I will say that more than likely back east you might have State an National parks that have smaller spaces that out
here in the western United States, thus you may have more problems back there, but as we have seen the price
seems to jump up about double in camp grounds as well ...
Safe Travels
