Considering a purchase of a new 312. Weight on the unit is listed at 6300 lbs. I'm pulling with a 1/2 ton GMC with a max trailer weight rating of 9500 lbs. Plan on putting 1 HD (roughly 750 lbs) and minor camping gear/clothes...not more than 2000 lbs.
What are your thoughts on this as a set up? Any safety issues or limitations?
Thanks...
Jim

Might be some white nuckling driving up and down hills. Engine size and axle ratio? I've pulled 7800lbs with a 07' GMC Yukon and 10' Dodge 1/2 ton and won't do it again. (both rearends overheated climbing long grades @55mph)

I have a KZ Sportsmen 280BHSS and tow it with my 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71. I did purchase the Equalizer hitch and installed the Firestone airbags in the rear. My engine is the 5.3L and I towed it last fall over 3,000miles through the Smokies and the mountains in Penn. and had no issues at all. I have the 6-speed auto trans with tow/haul and left it in tow mode with cruise set between 65-75mph throughout most of trip. It pulled it great and averaged 9.8MPG for the entire trip. I do recommend looking at some tow mirrors if you do not already have them. My trailer with gear loaded weighs in around 6,800lbs. Just watch your trans temp. I do change the rear end fluid annually along with trans fluid. Cheap insurance in my opinion. Also run full synthetic oils and diff fluids. Good luck and Happy Camping!
