We have a 14' KZ Sportsman. Traveling across the USA and one night we boon dock at a Walmart and the next night we go to a camp ground. When boon docking for a night should I unplug the 7 way from the truck? Thx. Ed

Hi Ed. Personally, I would unplug it. No use potentially draining the truck battery if something were drawing on it.

I agree with johnr, I always unplug to avoid draining the truck battery Safe Travels Chuck

Tow vehicles vary, some disconnect and some do not. If you test for voltage at the plug with the truck shut down, you will possibly know. Since there are so many relays and systems on late model vehicles, I don't take a chance and unplug then hang a toe tag on the steering wheel.

I agree with everyone else, unplug it. Why take a chance. I have always unplugged from the tow vehicle for a night in a lot. Happy Campin....

Thanks and it makes sense to unplug. Could not think of a reason not so will do so. Happy trails... Ed

IIRC, GM's plugs are always hot; Ford and Ram are not. YMMV...

The first long trip we’ve taken was back over Christmas and New Years. When we stopped for the night, it was for no other purpose than to sleep. The nights we did, temps were in the 50’s. I parked, setup, left the truck plugged in and running while the furnace ran to get things warmed up inside. Once it was a little too warm for comfort, I turned the thermostat off, and shut the truck down. I did stay plugged in though. My truck gives two remote start cycles at about 15 minutes each. If we wake in the middle of the night and it’s really cold, we can start the truck by remote and kick the furnace on, which we did do several times. Keeping it plugged in gives me two chances to start the truck and power up for 15 minutes or so without needing to go outside.
