Greetings all and happy New Year. I just noticed about two weeks ago that the black tank valve was leaking a small amount. I typically drain it once a week, close add full tank water, release do same over about 4 times. Before I recognized it was leaking I told my wife on two different weeks that something was different. When I started to dump I no longer got the large whoosh rushing out. I would have small whoosh so I would close valve and fill tank partially. After that I would get larger whoosh as before. I leave black tank flush running while going through my typical 4-5 flushes and noticed with black valve closed I would see small amount of liquid draining. We typically stay in one spot for a month and I keep gray valve open and black closed. After traveling from DFW to OKC I confirmed black valve was leaking as even being prepared having one end slinky hooked up to sewer and being positioned so when wife undid cap I still got little covered in sewer water. I ordered a gate valve and attached to end of trailer drain line with retaining clips so it couldn’t come loose in route.
I plan to have dealer fix in February when we are back in DFW area, but have a question. We are currently visiting our daughters in Fayetteville AR and temperatures are going to drop into teens overnight. Currently after flushing black tank I close both valves and run flush enough to fill drain line and bottom of black tank. Is it likely that the area that drops below bottom covering of trailer will this line full freeze and damage something?
It is a pain to keep gray tank valve closed as results in dumping both more often. Another question is if I leave gray valve open will water in drain line back up into gray tank or is there a check valve to prevent this? So far I wasn’t sure so I just keep gray valve shut.
Regards Ron
