We have a Durango 286BHD and I can’t seem to get hot water to come out. The back of the water heater has 2 valves 1 on top and the other on the bottom, do both of these have to be in-line?? I have both switches on the control panel marked “water heater electric” and “water heater lp gas” switched on. Can anyone help me out to get hot water?

I don't have that model but the handles in normally inline for open and across the line closed. You don't need both gas & electric on, I use electric when in and electric site, gas for dry camping.

Electrical switches have nothing to do with water flow. Valves are what controls the water flow and you may have them in the wrong position as stated above. If you turned on electric switches without the water heater being filled, damage will result. You need to know that water is flowing thru the tank, and not thru a bypass valve, before turning on the switches. Always open a hot water faucet till all air is expelled.

I have a 286bhd. I only remember seeing one valve at the bottom for a bypass. If you have 2 then I would open both. Also when you turn on the gas switch if you go outside do you hear it come on. If no water was in the tank then you have burnt out the electric element. (Done that). There are also 2 limit switches on the outside of the water heater. They may need to be reset. Let me know if nothing works, I can go to mine and look for any other valves.

Thank you very much...I took it off by pass and also flipped the switch on the water heater to “on” and it worked (rookie mistake). Now running the water heater off electric!
