I have a 2011 Sportsmen 19BH. I was wondering if there was an external connection on the propane line for something like a grill? I don't care to drag an extra tank along and those little 1 lb canisters are just not cost effective. I was just hoping I could use the trailer 20 lb tank since I use it very little otherwise. Other than putting an adapter on the tank up front, is there a port to connect something like a grill somewhere on the exterior of the camper?
My guess is that it would be something that would need to be customized, but I figured I would ask.

Direct answer is yes, there are external connections available, and in a lot of cases, factory installed. All that's needed is a T fitting with a quick connection on the low pressure side of the propane system. Your coach might even have a T with a plug or cap installed rather than a quick connection. Unless you are experienced with propane piping, you will want hire a pro to install whats needed, but it shouldn't be that big a job. The grill will need to be set up (no regulator) to connect directly to the coach's propane system rather than using the small bottles.

Thanks NVguy. I know a plumber that could help me with connections. But, do you know if there are any pre-installed connections on my particular trailer and where would they be. I already knew that the regulator on the grill would not be needed, which is easy enough. I can deal with that as I buy and refurbish weber grills, so I have a good working knowledge of the propane system on that end of the project. I just need to figure out the best way to get the gas to the grill from the trailer lines.

OK, good that you have a working knowledge of LP and the regulator issue. Yeah Weber BBQ's are worth referbing, I thought about that after the DW found a Weber Q on C/L, a little clean up and it's great. OK, back on point. I cant say if there are any pre installed connections on your coach, I would look for a T that has a plug. If not, the piping is just plain black gas pipe, so it's just cut and thread plumbing. Install a T at a point where running a line to where you want to BBQ the outside. Add your Quick Disconnect fittings. Premade rubber LP lines are available at your RV dealer or online. Since you will be doing major cut and thread work I would strongly recommend a leak check with a manometer. If your plumber has done much gas work he will know and understand the procedure. if not, have a mobile RV tech perform the test.

nvguy: That is basically the same advice I got from another guy regarding how to tap into the propane line. Thanks.
This is going to be a project for next spring at this point.
Now, I have to figure out how to access the line to the outside. Any thoughts on that?

Now, I have to figure out how to access the line to the outside. Any thoughts on that? You should see a black pipe running along the frame, with one or two T's with fittings that transition to copper which then goes inside to the various appliances. I wouldn't recommend putting a T in at an appliance then going back outside, as you want to minimize connections in the interior.

Oh, NVGUY, thanks for that. I will definitely look for the line under the camper. I agree that it would make sense to not have to go back through the wall or floor of the camper. However, if I tap into the section under the camper and install a quick connect, how do I keep it from getting full of road gunk and grime when pulling it?

They come with a little rubber plug that seals up the opening when not in use. It wouldn't be all that hard to fab up a cover that slips on / easily enough.
