Well the old 16k Curt hitch finally bit the dust after a number of years so I bought a B & W 18K Patriot 5th Wheel Hitch ...
It's sort of hard to get use to even thought it's like the over the road truck with locking jaws an not a slide bar ... It's sure much easier to hook an unhook that's for sure

I have Reese with locking jaws, I close the jaws before backing under the king pin. The jaws will open and snap closed when you back up. That way I know the jaws are closed and safe to lift the landing gear.

I have the B&W companion hitch about a year now & love it. Easier to operate, smoother towing, no slop or chucking.

Good move, the jaw type are usually more positive than the locking bar. long term, you will find it pulls better.

B&W has a good reputation. I have a Hensley BD3 which uses a Holland Binkley head ... also locking jaws. As others have said, reduced chucking from this design.

Chuck, Congrats on your new hitch, B&W is good. I as well have the Curt but have the Q-16 head with locking jaws, now it is an A-16 head. Why they relabeled the head now, who knows. I like it because it has zerk fittings to grease the pivot points of the locking jaws. Before this one I had the slide bar type. Been working great for three years so far. Happy Campin....

I am new but bought the B&W Companion slider and love it so far. Nothing wrong with the tug test I have been doing it even though I can see the jaws wrapped around the king pin and its been perfect so far. As a safety professional better to test then have a mishap.

Even harder to miss if you paint 'em with some day-glo pink/orange/green. I'm an avowed B&W "fanboy", and never hesitate to recommend them. I also have the TO Ball to tow our 30' GN trailer and have a clean bed for doing "truck stuff". Lyle
