Hello Everyone,
I know this has been brought up before about how to get all the water out of your fresh water tank but I have a few more questions on this subject. I was able to get all but 1" of water out from the bottom, I don't ever use my fresh water tank and don't plan on it, or lets just say it may be 5 years or longer before or if I do use it. I know this little bit of water will go bad after a few years. My question is should I fill it up 1/2 way? All the way? Is there something you can add to your water to make it last longer? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Sanitize the fresh water tank, and the entire water system, using bleach. Instructions for sanitizing are all over the internet. Not sure why you don't use the system but you don't want any part of it turning into a biological experiment.

Thanks You'll. The reason I don't use my fresh water tank is all the Camp Grounds I go to have fresh water supply, so there is no need for me too use this water tank. I do sanitize the water lines annually. I was wondering is there anything you can add to this tank so the water doesn't turn green.

Just a thought... I have been at places before when they had to turn the water off for half a day or all day due to necessary repairs to the water system. The fresh water tank would come in handy for showers, toilet flushes, hand washes, etc. So I always carry water in my fresh water tank just to be sure.

If you're really not going to use it...like EVER....you could keep the bleach/water sanitation mix in there and not drain it. You would have to remember to flush it out completely if you decided to use it, though.

I'm with nvguy, even thought we use camp grounds 99 Percent of the time we always carry about a 1/4 tank of water in case we need a potty brake while traveling or as nvguy has stated if they turn the water off in a camp grounds for some reason ... Believe me the water shut off along with sewer happen last year in one camp ground for a complete day when a guy dug up both while trying to fix the underground power Ugh !!!
Safe Travels !

Um, clean water doesn't go bad. Ever!
In your case, sanitize and drain. Leave the drain open until the tank dries out. Then close it off. I have a variety of water containers I do the same thing with all the time. 5 gallon water container I used to take tent camping. Drain, dry, refill and never had a problem. Same with canteens I keep in the boat or on my backpack. I'll fill them up at the beginning of spring and drain them when I winterize the boat. I keep the water on-board just in-case and have used it several times over the years. I carry a couple canteens on my backpack, even for car tent camping. I use them at night so I don't have to get out of the tent to get a drink at night. Clean water never goes stale and there is no expiration date.

After using the fresh water tank has anyone had an issue with camp ground water supply leaking into the tank and refilling it? I saw a post before saying that sometimes this can happen through the valve in the water pump not closing properly. So you drain the water tank, hook up to the water faucet and somehow water leaks back into the storage tank and over fills it.
Thanks

Usually the valve in the pump fails as you say and it may simply be some debris in it. Try cycling the pump a number of times to flush out the valve. If that doesn't work, disassembly or replacement is in order.

I've read elsewhere that people that have a backfill problem like this simply add an inline valve between the pump and tank as a "quickie" fix.

For the leak, do you have (A) and (B) water panel valves where you can divert water to different places? One of those may not be seated correctly, try moving those around a few times before putting them back in the operating position you want.
