We purchased our first trailer this summer (Connect 261RB) and it needed some warranty work done so I had the dealership winterize it at the same time. When I picked it up, they told me everything went well and there's nothing left for me to do until spring. However, I noticed they left the anode rod out of the hot water tank. Is that fine or should I put it back in? Also, I put a cover over the AC unit on the roof and covered my tires. I'll pull the battery out soon, anything else?
While I'm on the subject of winterizing, any tips to stop mice and other critters from getting in over the winter? I've heard of using moth balls and dryer sheets placed throughout the trailer. Just thought I'd see if anyone has had any other successful tips to pass on.

nxt3rd Sorry to hear you had to put your home away from home away for the winter. leave the anode rod out till the next time you get ready to use it an the either put plumber's tape or what I call plumber's goop around the threads to seal the anode into the hot water heater ... DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN, tighten just enough to stop the anode rod from leaking On the critter control, I use steel wool in the holes were they can get in, some people also put dryer sheets inside their trailers ... I would not put poison near any entry point were they can get in, as one owner found out the mouse or rat eat such went an hid in a place they couldn't get at an were left with the smell ...
I'm sure other will pipe on on critter control an what they do
Safe Travels

Since you only got to us the trailer a few times, I wouldn’t be worried about the anode rod, just leave it out. After every trip this year, when I got home, I pulled the anode rod and drained the tank that way, and left it out till the next trip, with our quality of water in Saskatchewan, in the spring I will need a new anode rod as it’s worn down pretty good, and I had lots of white scale coming out of the tank, I bought the water heater flusher from the local RV dealer for $20, and it’s worth it, made flushing all the scale out of the tank easy. And I’m with chuck with the critter control, steel wool to stop them getting in, and dryer sheets all over, then if you are lucky, in the spring on a nice hot day the inside of the camper smells like fresh laundry.

Really ? Leave the anode rod out ? I'll have to remember that next year. Why is that ? Just to let the tank dry out ?

I leave mine out to make sure that no water of any significance found its way back in, and to let things dry out.
