mdcamper There are plenty of Kz Durango owners here to help you with any questions you might have, check out the
When your new trailer comes in an your ready to do your PDI please, please print out the PDI List posted below
to aid you in such ... Do not let them rush you during you PDI an please do not sign anything or except your trailer before they fix any an all problems you may fine during your PDI ... Once you sign on the dotted line an leave the dealer it may take weeks an even months before you can get your trailer back into the dealer for any repair under warranty you may find Ugh !!!
I'm not try to scare you, but believe me you will fined small things an even sometimes bigger things during your PDI, again make sure they fix them even if you have wait another day or so to get your new home on wheels ... I can say it enough, once you leave the dealer even thought they may be the greatest people in the world when buying it in most but not all case's you will become a number because they have your money I'm sorry to say they could care less about you or ...
Here is the last post of the PDI List, again print it out an take it with you, there are thing that even the PDI list may not cover an you may find, your PDI should at least take 4 hours or more, take your time do not rush !!!!
Safe Travels an Welcoem again to the Kz Family

As couple of things in regards to hooking to your trailer
After your PDI make sure that the RV Tech shows you how to hook an Unhook your trailer, let him show you the 1st time an then you do it a at least three times while he is watch if you have never hooked up to a 5th wheel trailer before
Do not let them hook your 5th wheel up an say here you go your all set, you do it as stated above !!!
Here are some pointers the RV Tech should show you about hooking your trailer 1. Take your time an make sure you lower your tailgate before hooking up .. NOTE: Some people buy tailgates that have notches or drops in them so they do not have to think of such, but you still have to watch out where your kingpin is so it will not hit your tailgate even if it has a notch in it .... 2. Make sure your 5th wheel hitch is open an not closed ... 3. Make sure your trailer is blocked so it will not move .... NOTE: Some people use cross blocks between wheels, others use chocks, but your trailer needs to have one or the other so it will not move backwards while hooking which it can, believe me !!!
4. Back slowly under your trailer an make sure you are centered on the kingpin ... 5. Make sure that you your Kingpin is not to high to a point that you will over ride your 5th wheel ... NOTE: I like to get out an check just before my Kingpin hits the 5th wheel so I know I am not to high or low ... 6. Back slowly into your 5th wheel, once up against the 5th (kingpin in the 5th wheel) get out an latch the 5th wheel
an look to see that it is latched ... I use a flashlight an look to see if I am hooked to the trailer an latch is closed around the Kingpin ...
7. Once hooked do a tug or pull test to make very sure your trailer is hooked before you left your landing gear
NOTE: Always check that your trailers is hooked before lifting/rising your landing gear !!!! 8. Remember to lift you landing gear an close your tailgate an check to see power plug to trailer is hooked into your trucks plug receiver ... 9. Once all hooked, then on lights an flashers walk around an make sure all landing gear is up, steps are in, doors are closed rear lights an flashers are all working ... 10. When pulling away from camping site do another tug test with trailer brake only on not using truck bakes to make sure your trailer is hooked an the trailer brakes work ...
UNHOOKING
1. Make sure you are somewhat or close to level after backing into your camp site ... 2. Chock wheels so trailer will not move .... 3. Drop/lower landing gear to the point you start to see your truck rise taking the load off the 5th wheel ... Note: I lower the landing gear to the point I see daylight between the 5th wheel an the king pin box an then lower the trailer back onto the 5th wheel a bit, thus I know it's safe to pull away after I un-latch 5th wheel
an won't be dropping the trailer ...
4. Lower tailgate !!!!!!!!!! 5. Unplug Trailer light plug !!! 6. Unlatch 5th Wheel 7. Pull forward very slowly an ez trailer off the 5th wheel an stop for a moment ... Note: The reason ezing off the 5th wheel hitch is to make sure you don't drop the trailer hard an possibly brake something or have the landing gear fold ... Will landing gear fold, more than likely not but it has happened when a trailer is dropped really, really, really hard ... The for stopping for a moment is in case there is a miss hap an the landing gear dozen't hold up you at least can catch the trailer on the bed of the truck, is this a good thing no, but it's easier to lifting a trailer that is not on the ground than one that is ...
Always check to see that the trailer landing gear is always, always down before unhooking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank for you the additional info and I will be printing all of this and taking it with us when we get the coach.
Still up in the air on the hitch type. It's between an andersen ultimate, the reese goosebox (pin box replacement) and a pullrite autoslider. The last one is the least likely because I don't want to give up the payload, but if #2 (the most likely at this point) does not work for turning radius, I will get it.
Just a side note. Our Titan XD has this neat little feature, I am not sure if other trucks have this or not. When we are all hooked up I walk around to the back of the camper. Double press the door lock button on the key FOB, the press again and hold until the truck beeps. It will then cycle through all of the trailer lights and when complete, beep again. Very cool! Nice to be able to check everything without a second person.

Ok On the lights mdcamper I will say I do not have anything that fancy for the lights, after hooking up I just turn on the marker lights an 4 way flashers an walk around to see if everything is working... This also gives me a chance to check everything again to make sure all the landing gear is up, steps are stored, windows are shut etc ...

That light feature is pretty cool, but I do the same thing as Chuck, except I am really paranoid. I turn Left T/S on, walk around checking everything, return to drivers side, turn on Right T/S walk around the other way to see things from another angle. Before you get the Anderson, make sure it won't affect the frame warranty. Lippert is a real stickler about modifying things.

Indeed. My wife and I both have a set routine before finally taking off. She usually goes around the camper while I am doing the check lights routine. I then go behind her and check what she already checked etc. So far, no mishaps (knock on wood!)

mdcamper I know you are very excited, we all been there, please, please, please take your time an do a good PDI, do not let them rush you, as well don't you an the DW rush either !!!
Believe me the dealer is counting on you being excited an wanting to get you off the lot so he/she can get
the next one sold an off their lot ...
An since this is you 1st 5th wheel take your time at the dealer to learn about it front to back, top to bottom, hooking an unhooking etc ....
When I use to teach truck drivers they use to complain about always having to drive up an down mountain passes... I would tell them some day I won't be there to answer a question about such or warn you if you make a mistake, so it's sort of the same thing here ... If you have a good an I mean good RV Tech he or she will take the time to show you how things work, how to hook up an how to unhook, thus your PDI should take over 4 hours an then another hour or more on how to hook an unhook safely ... Of course the hook an unhook should be done after they fix anything that needs fixing again not to scare you, but there will be things that need to be fixed how ever small they may be ...
One thing you might do is ask to sit in your new trailer for a bet, take a breath before doing your PDI with your RV Tech, ask them point blank what they think of your new trailer, their likes an dislikes, put them on the spot so to speak ... Tell him/her that you are not new to camping but as they know new to 5th wheels, have a short but meaningful conversation with them so you both feel sort of contactable with each, but not to the point the tech is your best buddy LOL ... Then while walking though during your PDI act as you would with your old camper
when camping going thought the motions of camping, where would the dishes be, silverware, blankets, bedding, were would you store stuff for your black tank, toilet paper etc ...
Add to your PDI list were the low point drains are to empty tanks, I believe PDI list has how to fill your tanks, but if not how do you fill your fresh water tank, how do you flush your black water tank, along with winterizing your new home on wheels, there has been allot of questions on such lately ....

Not sure if any of you are interested but here is part of a long and exhaustive search for a new camper. We are YouTubers and will also be vlogging PDI and delivery. And of course we will be vlogging our future trips with the new rig as well. I think we may be the only vloggers that have a KZ product. LOL
If you like it please subscribe. We could use more subs.

mdcamper Liked your U-Tube Vid, I believe you will be the RV Techs worst night-mare, you seem well informed an know what you really want ...
Be very interesting to see the PDI Video, I'd like to see the look on the RV Techs face when you tell him that your going
Also hope you video the hitch an unhitching of your trailer even thought it's a goose-neck hitch instead of a regular hitch it still would be interesting
As they say a picture is worth a thousand words an a maybe a video may be worth three or four thousand

Thank you Chuck. Yeah, I am detail oriented, if you can't tell by my posts. LOL Our pin box replacement is being delivered on Tuesday. I will try to post some pictures of it when it comes in. Our ball and safety chains arrived this weekend so all we will need after Tuesday is our new trailer!
I can't begin to tell you all of the research, "kicking tires" and back and forth we have done to come to this point. It's been a long road. I just hope everything works out with the pin box install and it is as good as I hear it is while towing. Also that our truck handles the camper well. I have little doubts here but you never know. A bit nervous about towing a 5er and one that is over 30ft to boot!
