My membership with AAA comes due in October, but I was considering switching to GS for my wife and I and the travel trailer. We just had AAA for my wife and daughter and I had GM roadside assistance for the truck. We didn't have AAA RV for the camper since we never took it very far from home and only a couple times a year and I am always the one driving.
Now, with my daughter gone and my GM roadside gone, I am thinking of going with GS for my wife and I and the camper for peace of mind.
My question is, what is the best rate I can get right now? I see it for $79, but was wondering if there is a discount I am not aware of. Is there anything for disabled veterans perhaps? Or anything that can get me something lower than $79.00?

GS had taken care of us several times over the past 30 years. We have thier plan that covers our car and truck and the 5vr. Also covers anything we drive. We've been satisfied. The service is provided, at least it was by Allstate automobile club.

I am considering Good Sam as well as Coachnet. GS is the front runner just because of price so far.

We have GS but have never had to use it. I think, the $79 rate is probably an introductory rate....buy it for several years if you can. It went up for us as a renewal. We changed to GS after several years of AAA RV protection. Years back, we found out that our AAA RV coverage only covered the disabled unit. To explain, if our tow vehicle broke down needing towing, we had to pay to have the TT towed off the highway....GS takes care of both. This might have changed for AAA but this is what we were told several years ago.
The price seems in line for what we have seen advertised.

What about FMCA? It seems like that was a popular choice on another forum.

FMCA to my remerance is for MoHo's, unless they have changed. With a new moho I broke down going home from the dealer - had just picked it up. Coachnet refused service because it was new and under warranty. Called GS, still had them from my trade and they sent a service truck. Funny thing, the owner came on the truck and said they would have gotten the job from coachnet too. Go figure!

FMCA accepts all self-contained units now. I guess they needed more members. It hasn't been very long since they opened up their membership.

Look into Coach Net, if you do some reading on www.rv.net/forum/ -(GoodSams) you see many complaints on GS road service. I have used Coach Net for several years and they have been quick to have service to me. Major TV break down last year just outside Cortez CO. Wrecker & Dully 1 ton on scene in about 1.5 hrs, drive times about 1 hour between. All that was required was my signature, camper put in RV park TV to shop.

Yah, I am not going to pay $179. I don't use my RV that much.

Sure, and I want a roadside protection. I just don't think I do enough RV'ing to make a $179 plan worth it when I can get roadside assistance for less than half that from other outfits.
I don't need tech support and trip planning and all the other B.S., I just need basic roadside assistance for the RV and for our personal vehicles. Living in Wisconsin, a winter ditch encounter is always a possibility, especially for the wife.

Living in Wisconsin, a winter ditch encounter is always a possibility, especially for the wife. Sorry if I misunderstood. The problem with everyday road service is they're not equipped to know what you need. If the tow vehicle breaks down, what happens to the RV? If the RV breaks down how many companies know how to correctly move it? It doesn't matter, IMHO, that the extra services aren't needed it, but that the right on the road service is available. I've had a MoHo breakdown in a campground, and GS was there. I'm not saying GS is any better than the others, just that the right service for the job. Another consideration, is the service just for the RV, or the TV and RV. How about other family members and their vehicles. You might be able to drop other plans and go with a rv service that covers them all. Just some food for thought.

Extra food for thought....Sometime, somewhere you'll definitely need road service.

Yes, I thought I was clear on this. I am looking for personal vehicle roadside service for my truck (towing or otherwise) as well as my wife and her car. I also want roadside coverage for the 19 foot travel trailer when towing it.
It seems to me that AAA RV and Good Sam Standard would provide that. I don't tow much, so I don't think I require unlimited towing to wherever I want or Tech support or all the other bells and whistles. I am just looking for help with a tire on the TV or trailer when towing if the need arises and also coverage for our daily driver vehicles, even when not towing for things like flat tires, out of gas, stuck in a ditch, etc.....
I am open to other providers besides AAA and GS, but it seems they are the main ones for the type of coverage I am looking for.

I asked about the tow price on the one break down in CO, $800-900, two tire failures under 30 minutes response. There are two types RVers those that have had break a down and those that will. Reading the above ask AAA if they will add the RV.

Check carefully with AAA, I dropped them years back based on them confirming they would only tow the disabled vehicle. That is fine if it is the trailer but if the truck broke down, I was responsible to get the trailer off the road. They might have changed their policy....double check before purchasing. It was set up more for motorhomes. This only applied to the RV package which was quite pricey. Trailers were not covered under their other plans.

I have had AAA RV for years and I finally needed to call them this season for help changing a flat tire on the RV. They said there were no RV service centers within hours of my location and then said that I was on my own, good luck and have a nice day. I have since received apologies from AAA, but I am still leaving them. They shattered the peace of mind that I felt with them. The towing company that did show up only needed a 3 ton floor jack to get the job done. Thanks AAA, none of your service centers have floor jacks?

Problem - All these programs used contracted providers. They have no control. GS when I last used them several years ago used Allstate Motor Club. I can't believe that AAA had no providers close to you, unless you were in the desert or high on a plateau.

Yah, I had a bad experience (rather my wife did) with AAA 5 or 6 years ago. I probably should have dumped them then, but I didn't.
Anyway, I just want roadside assistance for my truck (pulling the camper or not), my wifes car and the travel trailer. I think I will just give Good Sam a shot.

$79 is what I paid for GS in July. I had been watching the rate for several months while it stayed at $89. So when it went to 79, I opted in. Haven’t needed it yet but a friend used GS a few weeks ago with good results when they had a blow out with their 5er on a rural North Florida road.
