Another nail in the coffin for our Venom the Lemon!
Last May DH caught side ladder on old gate entrance at fairgrounds and sheared off a section of the ladder with some slight damage to left side at the rear corner. Now dealer wants $5700 (parts cost $1700 for ladder and vent in lower side, labor = $4000) to repair it There are a few scratches to fiberglass and part of corner trim needs to be replaced. Is this reasonable?
We had planned to replace the ladder ourselves, so we had ordered a replacement ladder first of June from dealer's parts department. Dealer never followed through on the order even after several phone calls asking for updates on our replacement ladder. We then started a month long vacation that we were forced to cancel after 6 days because ALL the slides failed. Bedroom slide stuck shut; main slides stuck open. Trailer has now been at dealers for 2 1/2 weeks (after first waiting more than 2 weeks for service appointment). Service department called today with the above estimate for ladder fix and has not yet ordered the replacement ladder!
As for main slides repair: dealer says today that a new solenoid is on order from Lippert that they "hope" will fix the problem.
According to the dealer, the malfunction of the bedroom slide was due to a 30 amp fuse failure that is not shown on ANY diagram from KZ or Lippert. The dealer's mechanic claims this fuse failure caused all the slides to fail simultaneously. The factory service rep that we had talked to initially had no clue about why both system failed or where any such fuse might be located. We have not been able to check this out yet ourselves.
We have no idea how much longer our almost 2 year old trailer will be out of service again. So far in the last 22 months of ownership, the dealer and/or the factory has had it 40% of the time for warranty work.
