If you are hooked up to sewer, should you still use a pod of the black water tank treatment?
Also, is OK to simply use a little bleach in the tank instead of the treatment pod?

When you say "hooked to sewer", does that mean permanently?
In short, the black and grey systems are not designed to be straight thru. They are designed to hold waste, then be emptied. Just hooking up to a sewer and leaving the valves open can lead to problems such as dried stuff (on the black side we know what, on the grey side there is a lot of debris, food particles, stuff from the shower) as the tanks themselves are not angled to drain, they depend on the outgoing rush of water when dumped.
As far as using bleach, I have been told by manufacturers not to as it damages the seals in the valves, plus the black tank chemicals help the solids to dissolve in addition to keeping the odor under control.

Thank you nvguy. I have gotten the same information elsewhere. I usually don't camp with sewer hookups, but now I know how to properly use them when I do. I will also stick with the RV treatment pods.

Try every brand, there is no "wrong" tank treatment, it's what works with your personal chemistry. When I was in the biz I had the ability to try everything. I settled on Aqua Chem.

Everywhere I have looked that Happy Campers stuff gets great reviews. I will probably order that once my current supply of other brand runs out. But, at least I know how to properly use the BW tank when I have sewer hookups.
