Have 2001 KZ Sportsman Coyote need to change out power cord ,already changed plug on it but then notice wires still have burns marks , even after chopping foot or so off before putting on new plug on so feel best to change whole cord out but not sure where it connect to on RV Can anyone advise where might connect? Thank you

If this is a hard wired cord, the type where it disappears in a mouse hole, you need to go inside and open things up to find the connection. If the cord appears OK, I would cut off some more till you find good wire. The heat is generated from a poor connection in the receptacle, keep your plug prongs shiny with sandpaper, always turn off the breaker before plugging in and plug in and out a number of times to wipe the contacts in the receptacle. Many (most?) campground receptacles are abused, weak and worn, if you find one that is loose, plug into the 50 amp one using an adapter, or move to another site.

If you opt to replace the cord, go inside the trailer, opposite where the cord disappears into the exterior wall. You will find buried deep inside a cabinet, a (most likely) a 4" square electrical box. Unscrew the cover and start disconnecting wires & the strain relief where the wire enters the box. Pay close attention to what color is connected to what, as sometimes RV manufacturers are not, uh, as careful as they should be with following wire color standards. Use some new wire nuts, and since trailers are a rolling earthquake I like to put a wrap of good electrical tape around each wire nut to ensure they stay put.

I would take a picture of the wiring inside the box before disconnecting things, thus when you go to put you new cord in you do not have to second guess yourself, as well make what wire goes to what wire in the junction box thus again you do not have to second guess where things go ... I also like to solder wire's together an then wire nut them for a better connect that dozen't come apart ... In some case with heavy wire this is not possible unless you have a really good soldering gun or iron Good luck, let us know how it turns out Chuck
