Thinking about upgrading our 2014 KZ Spree (261rks) TT for a 2018-19 Durango 1500 259RDD.
Any opinions good or bad before we spend the money?
We will have to upgrade our Silverado to a 3/4 ton...between the 2 new purchases and the hitch, it will be a major investment....don't want to be sorry after the investment is made.
We have been looking at all the RV companies out there for a good year and it seem for the size unit we can't beat the floor-plan and storage of this KZ. We love our present KZ, have no concerns staying with the manufacture. We set 30ft. as our max. size for a variety of reasons. The big problem, we can't do a walk through the actual unit without travelling a long distance....no one, reasonably close by, has that model. We have seen several YouTube videos it looks like it will be a good one for our needs just wondering if we are missing something. Might be buying it blind.
If you have any opinions, as I said, good or bad please pass them along...no matter how small.
Thanks.

I can't answer specifically about the 259RDD, but we have a 2015 Durango 1500 295, and though it is lighter built than the gold or 2500 series, we have been generally happy with it. there are some finish issues inside, (I do finish carpentry on the side as a handyman, so I'm kind of a perfectionist about those things) We haven't pulled it over a lot of rough roads, but put about 15,000 miles on it so far and structurally everything is holding up, I did replace some of the screws and lightweight brackets holding the sewer dumps and brackets, and moved the very low and too far back rear jacks. The only real problem we've had with it was a poorly welded slide motor/bracket, and our dealer repaired/replaced that for us, trailer was 3 months old.

Thanks. I do believe we will have a 259 at the rally

Thank you to both of you for your replies. Good suggestions for things to look for.
We might wait until we are at the rally. If it works out, the closest dealer said they might be able to set up a meeting with their company rep. so we could see one. There is no reason we can't travel and use our present RV for this season.

I can't believe there are so few Durango 1500 259DDR owners out there. We went to a dealer, 3 hours away, this past Thursday, while camping in the area and stopped again yesterday on our trip home. Looked seriously at all the Durango 1500s they had for quality, décor choices, dinette styles, closets, etc. Even though we couldn't see the unit we want, we have a good idea of what each feature we would get in the floor plan we like. They told us it would go to production shortly, probably would have it by the end of July. We went through this time-frame with the last KZ we bought...didn't happen, hope it holds true this time. We want to give it a couple of days to think about everything....I think, we will call them in the next day or two to order it.
The response from owners is still appreciated but quickly please.
We will keep you posted....hope to have this Durango when we come to the Rally in August.

I too am from western NY and you are correct. There are NO Durango dealers in NY at all. In order to see the one we wanted we had to drive 3 1/2 hours to PA but it was worth it. We fell in love with a 2500 340FFL and ordered one. It goes into production on the 29th!! Yippee!! Hope you are able to get what you want and love it when you do get it.
Happy camping both now and in the future.

As jetzen stated in another thread there were only I believe 600 Durango Golds overall made last year, so it's possible that about the say number of Durango 1500 series were also within about the same numbers ... From traveling the country I can tell you that you do not see many Kz Durango's going down the road or in camp grounds I try an make it a point to knock on the door of the Durango's Golds in camp grounds an say hello to a fellow owner Safe Travels an here is hoping you get what you want an in time for the rally, see you there !!!! Safe travels Chuck

I know this is an older post, but just wanted to share that we just bought a 259RDD. Just got back from our maiden trip. The only thing that I can say in the least negative is the living room light switch. It's inside the cabinet as you walk in. It's a minor inconvenience, but for the life of me I can't think why they would put a light switch inside a cabinet door. In the dark you have to feel for the door handle then feel for the switch. Very minor, but what were they thinking? Aside from that, we do love the floor plan and the RV.

Glad you are enjoying it. I agree, the switch placement is not thought out very well a lot of times. My previous KZ was the same way. My current KZ has the porch light switch all the way over at the stairs going to the bedroom in my fifth wheel. Go figure.

At the Kz factory during the rally I could not find the switch panel till someone showed me it inside the panel ... I made the comment to the Kz rep there that it was sure a funny place to put switch's, he just smiled an said yes ... Hope you enjoy, the one I saw looked pretty nice inside an was layed out very well Safe Travels Chuck

debdeb, We have a 245 which has the stairs in the same place. Does the carpet halfway across the bottom of the stairs bother you? It bothered us a lot at first but either we have gotten used to it or flattened the carpet so we don't feel it as much.
