My girlfriend was out on the patio on our 382MBQ when a rogue wind came through and ripped the awning completely off the RV. No warning, no indication that the wind was going to increase, just a rogue wind and the awning is now on the ground. Looks like it was just screwed into the, rather thin, metal over the sliding glass door. KZ: How about using some bolts and washers so there is at least a bit more resistance to being pulled off completely.
I seriously doubt if I will ever use the awning over the main door now since there is no way of knowing if another breeze will rip that off the frame as well.
The only silver lining is the entire awning came off in one piece so it can be reattached (and never used again)

Ugh that's too bad. Hopefully when you get it reinstalled they can reinforce the mounting.

Gary Unlike you back awning the side awnings have shock type of absorbers attached the metal supports holding the awnings ... They do help an I would not leave the awnings fully extended straight out in anything over 15 to 18mog winds ... I have anchors I attach to my awning when out so if by chance a rogue wind gust (your words) comes up it hold the awning in place somewhat ... I hope you get your awning fixed without a problem since your trailer is new, I have read that many of the owners are using awning tie downs on the back awnings, but even then it may be of no use if it has no good bonding to the trailer ... I will ask at the rally if there is fix to this problem such as what you have stated ... Safe travels an as some may say happy Glamping Chuck

Cr*p on a new unit too. I live in wind country and don't use the awnings much. (40-50mph predicted today) Couple 5 gallon pails filed with water, pails can be multi purposed.

I would think that there could be a way to attach the awning fabric to the frame with some Velcro so that it separates from the frame without damaging the frame.

So Gary You heard anything on or about your awning problem I forgot to add that our side awnings are attached like any other MFG attaches awning to trailers thought a sort of slide attached to the side of the trailer or slide out, so it makes me wonder why this wan't done in the same manner as how your other awnings are attached ... Hi Gary, I have the same rig and am very hesitant on using the back awning now. I am in a moderate wind area, as it usually blows every day 10-15. When I purchased the rig the dealership mentioned awnings and wind speed and when to roll them up. My thought was how nice now I need a anemometer and weather station to keep track of the wind speed! Keep us posted if KZ gets back to you, I have a call in to them on a couple of minor issues and have been told they had a turnover in employees and some cases have been lost. Not exactly what I wanted to hear. SO I call every week to try and move my issues along.

Chuck I have not heard anything from KZ about this (not that I was really expecting to) Never heard anything from KZ so I had a local awning guy re-install it. He was pretty appalled at how flimsy the setup actually is. Just a thin piece of sheet metal with no header and sub-standard screws holding it up. I doubt if I will ever extend it again since I am just too scared of another freak wind ripping it out again. The installer did use molley rivets so it should hold better but I am still too paranoid about it.

Chuck keep us posted on what KZ says, I have the same model with the same awning. Just hoping I don’t have any issues with it, although it doesn’t cover much area so not used much.
