Anyone using the progressive with the remote digital readout or similar? Also, I read a review and one guy said that the warranty could be voided if you DYI, even if you are qualified. Not sure how k-z would handle this, anyone? Thinking about getting the integrated EMS as low and hi voltage is more common that you think. + or - 10% is fairly normal but when you get into the 15 - 20% range many devices may fail. I found one with out the remote digital readout for about $285, which is pretty good IMO.
Your thoughts?

bob52,
I use the Progressive 50AMP system with the remote readout. This is the second 5TH wheel it has been in. Progressives customer service is great. Have never had an issue with questions or service. I've installed it myself, love it, wouldn't be without one. Like you said, campground electrical systems are very iffy sometimes. Saved us a few times. It works as stated. I've never heard of anyone being denied coverage due to failure. It can't be any easier to install, very simple. You sure the individuals dealer didn't want a piece of the action? Happy Campin....

Is that just a regular phone wire that connects the system?

Hi, thanks for the reply. Glad to hear that. Another quick one for you. Where did you place the readout? Did you penetrate your floor or fish a wall, or did you mount it in front of the wall to be viewed from the storage area? Thanks Bob

Is that just a regular phone wire that connects the system? Both in my old 5th wheel an this one is shielded wire to the read out panel, both mine came with about 6ft of of wire Chuck

johnr & bob52,
Unfortunately it isn't a regular phone cable, it looks like it but it's not. In their literature it explains it, you can get/order just a cable from them if you need one. They bring it to your attention "not" to use a phone cable in the paper work. I drilled a hole above the docking station and mounted my readout there. Didn't want it inside the living area, wanted to keep it in the docking valve area with the wiring behind the wall so it wouldn't get caught on anything. Then made a list of the fault codes and placed it above the readout, also my to do check list on the right. Happy Campin....

That's perfect. I am not comfortable drilling holes in this rig I will do the same as you. Thank you very much for your time! Bob

bob52,
Here are a couple more pictures of what you will find behind your docking station panel and behind the wall. If you have the same one and configuration. Remove about six screws and that large wall panel comes out then three or four screws for the short wall panel behind the docking station. What the docking station is installed in is a large black plastic box as you can see. High on the right side of the first picture you can see the readout wire hanging down, there is nothing up there. Always best to look first. Out of that mass of water line fittings I have had one leak, wasn't tight. Give them a good checking over while you're in there. I didn't and had to take it apart again a few months later. Noticed water coming out from under the wall on the floor, good now. Happy Campin....

RdRmr what is the loose duct? Did you take it off or is that the belly heat in yours?

Edd505,
Yep that's what it is. Puts heat behind that wall, I tied it up off the floor and pointed it toward the back of the docking station after installing the EMS. In the storage compartment in front of the wall I have a regular heater vent.

I think the belly heat is over played by k-z. The front compartments and other areas allow so much air to come through, that even if the heat was running full time, it would still be very difficult to keep that area warm IMO. I have not verified this but might do that one day.

Our 384 seems to be pretty warm in colder weather, But I have to say we only seen maybe mid to high 30'es but in fact we turn the heat down at times for at least the DW but not me LOL... Last year coming east I thought we were using the trailer as an Ice box, had to ware my winter jacket in the trailer DW can't stand the heat at all, anything above 78 an she is complaining, me anything under 75 an I'm complaining Ugh ... I believe the last time it was cold an raining when we were out it was in the low 40es an only went thought one tank of propane using the heat, stove etc in three days, of course we are pretty fugal an turn heat down to 60 at night an turn on furnace to knock the chill off in the daytime ... Of Course our storage area is enclosed with pretty good seals on the storage doors, very front storage compartment is a different story since the jack legs stick thought there ... Safe travels Chuck

So Chuck, does DW mean Darling Wife or something else? I love the cold but my wife loves heat. We are opposites my friend! That front storage compartment has it's wires and stuff running right through the main compartment, and it is quite a gap. That was basically why I was saying what did about the heat value.

I have sealed all under belly holes with expanding foam. The gap on the leveling legs was really large, filled with insulation to hold foam in place. Nothing froze except the parks stand pipe, water in during freeze is the issue. Keep water in the tank and run off the pump & not city water during freezes. RdRmr Very nice job, I see another one being installed in mine soon.

TNXS for the comment Edd I have not filled the legs with anything, in that (front) compartment it is enclosed with a steel bulkhead an overhead ... So in my storage compartment I have a shelf in front of the trailer, thus there is about 2ft between the under side of the bedroom/walk in closest an the steel shelf which is the top of the front compartment were our landing legs are along with the hydraulic tank an system ... I might find a way to seal that upper main compartment shelf area that's over the legs (front compartment), but the opening is fairly large plus the tubing and wires running through that area, so I might have to use some form of dry insulation maybe.

Good idea, like I said we have not camped in temps below 45% like Edd has, so we have always been toasty Chuck

Bob I sealed it as it is a great place for critters to nest in the things stored there. The less openings the less critters to worry about. I found a black widow in that area when I sealed it. Only had critter issues in my 1st 16ft, Back from a hunting trip & found a bunch of dead mice under then next morning, good kitty & great mouser. JMHO

LOL Edd We just had our car serviced (Rad4) they found field mice in both air filters an it was parked in our garage the whole time unless we drive it ... So far none in the trailer this year, we have two cats, one likes the garage, it's her hunting area, but I guess she is to full of can food to hunt We don't heat trailer so to cold for them in that but garage is allot warmer an of course after car has been run an parked, real warm in such Ugh ....
