I would like to convert my heat and air conditioning to a digital control vs the analog one.
Any one out there familiar with the process of converting them to digital?

i have converted my last two 5th wheels to digital thermostats. i think i bought them from amazon and they were reasonably priced. get the ones made by the same company that made the analog ones you have now and they will hook up the same way using the same wires. Took 5 minutes , and works like a charm.

This is exactly the thermostat that I used, but mine were dark brown ... they control temperature +- 1 degree of the set temperature. Huge improvement over the analog sliders that came with the rig.

I believe they are made in several different colors. I've seen black ones also.

I really want to convert mine, but for some reason I am really hesitant to do so.

Johnr ... don't worry about it ... it is a wire for wire exchange. They are color coded exactly the same. I had to use two different ones, one has heat and cool and the other was only for cool. But the whole operation took 30 mins.

2X on the simple installation. Wire colors match. Once you start using its, you'll be asking yourself why I didn't do this sooner.

I'm going to post this so if in the future someone is looking for information on doing what I did they will find it here. I had considered doing the swap to Suburbans digital thermostat but wanted some features that it lacked, especially auto changeover from heat to AC. I ended up installing the Lux Geo. It is a WiFi thermostat that can be operated with two lithium AA batteries. Wiring was straightforward with 12 volt + going to Rh, 12 volt negative removed and isolated, the fan, heat, and cool wires going where they usually go. Of course you only get high fan with this arrangement but that was fine by me. Setting up the thermostat with our network was easy. The settings can be made at the thermostat or from the app on your phone. So far it has functioned well and we snagged it for 95 online shipped to the door.

Very nice, wish I had seen it before I did the Coleman mach thermostat conversion.

If you're planning on splurging, you might want to check the ecobee 4 since it's got built in alexa already. Only if u're planning to splurge. lol because it's quite expensive .

The Ecobee and Nest thermostats need a 24 volt AC wire to operate, which would require installing a transformer and some relays. The Lux supports Alexa but we don't use it. The whole idea of appliances monitoring me instead of the other way around kind of creeps me out a bit. We don't even use the geo-fencing feature on the Lux.
