Hello, we are at a point where we are ready to buy our first camper. We have 2 vehicles that can tow and would prefer a camper to use with either. My wife and I have 3 young boys, 9,7 & 4 and see various uses for the camper in our future. Our biggest concern is the tow weight. Our 2016 Sequoia is 5.7 8 cyl with 7300 tow capacity. We have looked hard at the KZ Connect with bunk beds, specifically 2018 version of C241BHK (uvw 5120). We thoroughly inspected it and the sales person have been very accommodating. We were ready to purchase and then I read some reviews that made me baulk, mostly about craftsmanship and leaks of windows. I proceeded to then muddy the waters by walking thru Rockwood 2706 (uvw 6824). We saw a slight upgrade in features/workmanship, obviously this is a bigger unit but I am concerned about towing this with a Sequioa. Im sure under normal conditions it will be fine but I guess you never know until you get stressed with elevation/ weather.
This also made us ask the question of is the C241BHK big enough or do we need to move up to the C281BHK. They didn't have one their but one was coming in. Although, the Rockwood is very nice, I do not want to have to be concerned with being super anal about how to load the camper. Our salesperson initially agreed with our concerns with towing capacity , which is why we looked at the KZ's. after talking to the owner, and the sales person again, they said the Sequoia would handle it but didn't want to tell us that because it was pushing the limits. I also called another dealer and she wasn't concerned with the 476lb difference between the Rockwood and towing capacity. this would not red flag it for her.
I do take reviews with a grain of salt because there are also a lot of good ones for the KZ campers. I also believe that the sales person is acting on our best interest. I just don't want to bite off more than we can chew on the first one. I also know there is no perfect camper so I just need some input from people who have more experience than us. please advise
